After graduating from high school, he becomes independent by renting an apartment near Cheer-chan while working at a factory in Tokyo. One day, when Cheer-chan asks him for a massage to help with her bust-up, he earnestly studies and masters the required technique. However, despite only performing the massage, Cheer-chan ends up in an extremely relaxed state described as "melting," raising the question of whether his actions stem from his purity or just a bit of foolishness (as noted in the manga volume 10 afterword). Furthermore, in chapter 99 of volume 11, it is revealed that the scent between the two has "become a substance of reassurance," suggesting that their relationship is something more special than just childhood friends.
