Itechō Kangetsu is the Winter Guardian Officer who serves the Winter Agent Rōsei Kantsubaki in Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring, and at age 29 he is the oldest among the current agents and guardian officers.
Kangetsu is a retainer who has served Rōsei Kantsubaki since Rōsei was still a child.
His position is Guardian Officer to an Agent.
The Kangetsu family had supported the Kantsubaki family even before the era of the Agents began.
Because of that, serving Rōsei had already been decided between the two families.
He taught swordsmanship to Sakura Himedaka.
Like his master, he carries deep guilt over having failed to protect Hinagiku Kayō and Sakura ten years earlier.
It is also stated by Akatsuki that Kangetsu was created as the kind of person who could support Rōsei.
Gender: Male
Age: 29 at first appearance
Birthday: September 17
Role: Agent Guardian Officer
Voice Actor: Satoshi Hino
Kangetsu is described as a dazzlingly handsome man with refined sensual charm.
His beauty is striking enough to stand out even at a glance.
His hair is silver threaded with black, compared to a snowy field embraced by the night.
He has narrow eyes, and his face is hidden behind sunglasses, though his allure cannot be concealed.
From afar, he appears to be wearing a black jacket with a dark-patterned vest in a three-piece suit.
Up close, it becomes clear that the outfit matches his master’s, with gold ornamentation on black fabric.
He has a tall, well-built figure that perfectly suits such elaborate clothing.
It is the kind of physique that inspires admiration regardless of gender.
Kangetsu uses “I” as his first-person pronoun.
As the oldest guardian officer, he is often pushed into the role of mediator and problem-solver.
Being dragged around by his master’s circumstances is part of his daily life.
He is also unusually prone to getting caught up in trouble, but he is highly skilled at resolving it.
At first glance, he seems like a quiet, seductive butler.
Once he speaks, however, there is a distinctly paternal warmth in his words.
He is a fully realized man worthy of protecting Winter, the highest-ranked season and its male deity.
Even from a male perspective, he comes across as undeniably cool, and everything he does looks polished.
Despite his intimidating elegance, he is gentle in conversation.
He is a true gentleman, exceptionally considerate, and remarkably attentive to others.
Rennri describes him as “the kind of man you would want as a boss.”
He gives off the reassuring air of a dependable adult who would never brush off someone seeking help.
In the story, he is admired and respected by people of all genders.
Many characters look up to him with genuine affection and admiration.
His voice actor described him as a person who combines the strength, kindness, and loneliness associated with winter.
To others, he appears calm, warm-tempered, and extraordinary.
He is kind enough to get along with anyone and compassionate enough to be called merciful.
At the same time, as a guardian officer, he possesses a cold resolve and will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to protect his lord.
Sakura is also someone who can quickly switch gears, but Kangetsu is far more mechanical and far less shaken.
This unnaturally fast emotional adjustment seems to come not from his natural personality, but from hard-earned life experience.
The highest-ranked season, Winter, is the one most frequently targeted by those who wish to kill its Agent.
Trusted figures have not rarely turned out to be accomplices to assassins.
Kangetsu has seen the ugliest side of humanity more times than he can count.
He has eliminated so many people who threatened his master that the number cannot be counted on both hands alone.
Tragically, he is used to human betrayal.
That acceptance gives him a quiet sadness beneath his calm exterior.
Kangetsu is exceptionally athletic.
His physical ability is outstanding even by elite standards.
He has perfectly mastered the Kangetsu Style.
This is a comprehensive sword art said to be difficult to learn, combining acrobatic body techniques with swordsmanship.
He was also Sakura Himedaka’s sword instructor.
That role further shows both his technical excellence and his patience as a mentor.
Rōsei Kantsubaki
Rōsei is Kangetsu’s lord.
Though Kangetsu sometimes speaks harshly to him, he never abandons him.
No matter what happens, Kangetsu remains Rōsei’s absolute ally.
Their bond is steadfast and central to his character.
They interact more like brothers or close friends at times, and they get along well.
Because they often communicate physically and directly, their relationship can seem more straightforward than that of the other master-servant pairs.
Even so, their feelings for each other are strong in the way expected of an Agent and a Guardian Officer.
There is nothing shallow about their bond.
Sakura Himedaka
Sakura is both his disciple and the person he loves.
She was once like a younger sister to him, but she later became someone he cherished romantically as well.
He trained her in swordsmanship.
Their connection carries both tenderness and emotional complexity.
Hinagiku Kayō
Hinagiku is the person loved by his lord.
Kangetsu feels intense guilt over having failed to protect her ten years ago.
He believed it was only natural for her to hate and resent him.
Because of that, he was deeply unsettled when she continued to call him “Brother Itechō” just as she had before.
Zansetsu Kayō
To Kangetsu, Zansetsu is the “flower thief” who stole away the one he loves.
He is one of the rare people who can draw jealousy out of an otherwise composed and mature man.
Kangetsu is the oldest of the current Agents and Guardian Officers.
That seniority adds to his image as the group’s exhausted but capable stabilizer.
He is a handsome, elegant adult with the soul of a protector.
What makes him memorable is the contrast between his gentleness and the ruthless resolve he can show when his master is threatened.
He also shares with Rōsei the burden of the past.
Both men still feel responsible for failing to protect Hinagiku and Sakura ten years ago.
“For now... it is all right now...”
“Sakura, do you still hate me?”
“Those two had a small love. It was a lonely love between gods.”
