Reida Ryia is a legendary human swordswoman and the current “Water God,” standing at the pinnacle of the Water God Style for over thirty years despite being an elderly woman past her physical prime.
Reida Ryia is the title held by the strongest female swordswoman of the Water God Style, with only the current Water God allowed to bear this name.
If a man inherits the Water God title, he takes the name “Reidal” instead.
She is a small, wrinkled old woman of the human race who has served as Water God for more than thirty years.
Although not counted among the Seven Great World Powers, she is described as a swordsman on par with the Sword God and North God.
Reida once served as the official swordsmanship instructor of the Asura Kingdom’s royal court.
Even after stepping down, she retains many devoted followers within the royal palace.
Her self-introduction, “I’m Reida. Reida Ryia. I don’t really need to say who or what I am, do I?” reflects that Reida Ryia is a title rather than a personal name.
Within the world, the name alone is enough to identify her status and reputation.
Reida is a small, elderly woman whose skin is deeply lined with wrinkles.
Her face often looks stern or cantankerous at first glance.
Despite this, her overall impression is gentle and unhurried, almost grandmotherly.
With the right clothes, people say she would look perfectly at home knitting in a comfortable armchair.
Her presence tends to put onlookers at ease, leading many to underestimate her.
This contrast between harmless appearance and terrifying strength is one of her defining traits.
In the game side story “Paul Extra,” Reida’s younger self appears as a beautiful woman in her prime.
Her youthful appearance there is said to be so stunning that it does not seem to match her stated age at all.
Reida’s personality is dry, sharp-tongued, and often downright rude.
She may spit on the ground, insult others casually, and shows little patience for decorum.
She even calls figures like the Sword God and the Asura Kingdom’s First Prince Grabell Zafin Asura “boy,” ignoring rank or notoriety.
Social status, nobility, and court etiquette mean very little to her.
Reida can be brutally pragmatic and cold.
If someone gets in the way, she is willing to kill them, even if they are her own disciple or an ally.
At the same time, she is deeply loyal to favors received in the past.
She is willing to plunge into mortal danger if it means repaying a debt of gratitude.
In her youth, Reida was rough, wild, and impulsive.
She once smashed through ceilings simply because she thought it looked cool, behaving more like a reckless demon tribe warrior than a typical Water God Style practitioner.
This free-spirited attitude stands in contrast to the Water God Style’s reputation for patient, studious, and serious swordsmen.
Her unusual personality makes her stand out even among masters of her style.
Reida is over sixty years old and well past her physical prime.
Nevertheless, her combat power remains at the lower tier of the Seven Great World Powers.
She is stated to be stronger than the Seventh-ranked World Power, the Death God Randolph.
Against Sword God Gal Farion, her estimated win rate is about thirty percent.
Reida excels in multi-on-multi or multi-on-one battles thanks to the nature of her ultimate techniques.
In one notable feat, she simultaneously restrained two king-class swordsmen, the Sky Dragon King Perugius Dola, and all of his familiars.
The author notes that Perugius could have escaped if he chose to, but Reida still managed to hold him and his subordinates in check.
This shows how suffocating her control of the battlefield can be.
As a Water God Style user, her combat approach is heavily defensive and counter-oriented.
Because of this, there are times when she lacks decisive offensive power compared to more aggressive styles like Sword God.
Despite this limitation, the sheer lethality and coverage of her ultimate technique make her terrifying to face.
Unless an enemy can move faster than her slashes or defend against them within her domain, they are effectively immobilized.
Water God Style Background
Reida stands at the very top of the Water God Style, a sword style known for its unparalleled defense and counters.
Within this style, there are five traditional ultimate techniques, each extremely difficult to master.
Reida not only mastered these techniques but also combined the most difficult two into a completely new, original ultimate move.
This accomplishment is the key reason she has held the title of Water God for over thirty years.
Hakudatsu Sword
Hakudatsu Sword is one of the five original ultimate techniques of the Water God Style.
While the text does not give full detail on its independent function, it is referenced by name as part of Reida’s combined technique.
From the naming and context, Hakudatsu Sword is likely a technique that “strips away” or “deprives” the opponent’s ability to act or defend.
Reida uses this concept as a core component when she creates her original ultimate technique.
Hakudatsu Sword Realm
Reida’s signature move is Hakudatsu Sword Realm, a sixth, original ultimate technique she developed herself.
It is created by combining the two most difficult Water God Style ultimates, one of which is Hakudatsu Sword.
To use it, Reida first assumes a specific stance, establishing an invisible “realm” around her.
The radius of this realm is vast, roughly the size of an entire ballroom or banquet hall.
Within this realm, any movement or surge of mana triggers an immediate slash from Reida.
These slashes can appear from any direction—front, back, left, right, above, or below.
As long as the target is within range, any action becomes fatal: even moving a single finger is enough to be cut.
The only way to survive is to move faster than the slashes or defend against them, both of which are nearly impossible for ordinary fighters.
Hakudatsu Sword Realm is purely a counter technique.
If the enemy does not move, Reida also cannot act while maintaining the realm.
Because of this limitation, it is especially suited to battles where Reida has allies.
Her allies can pressure or force movement while she traps the enemy within her domain.
Creating Hakudatsu Sword Realm is what solidified Reida’s position as the Water God for more than three decades.
It is the culmination of her mastery over the Water God Style and the cornerstone of her fearsome reputation.
As a teacher, Reida has a keen eye for talent and can quickly see a student’s potential.
However, her methods are harsh, coercive, and often counterproductive.
If she finds a talented boy she dislikes, she may “kidnap” him under the pretense of fixing his attitude.
She drags him to the dojo, repeatedly beats him down in training, and forces obedience through brute strength.
One such student could not endure being beaten and controlled against his will.
He eventually rebelled by acting out in spite and ran away from the dojo.
Because of incidents like this, Reida cannot be called a “good” or effective instructor, despite her skills.
Her uncompromising, force-driven style is better suited to battlefield dominance than nurturing disciples.
Even so, those who can endure her training and understand her intentions may earn her acknowledgment.
For such rare students, Reida is willing to entrust the future of the Water God Style.
Reida is called to the Holy Land of the Sword by Sword God Gal Farion.
His goal is to let Eris Boreas Greyrat experience firsthand how to deal with the Water God Style.
Reida arrives at the Holy Land with her granddaughter and disciple, Isolte Cruel.
There, she demonstrates her techniques and gives Eris a crucial taste of Water God defense and counters.
In the past, Reida once fought Orsted.
This battle took place before Orsted’s relationship with Hitogami turned fully hostile, so he let her live.
Because she has directly experienced Orsted’s strength and terror, she is stunned when Eris openly sets her sights on defeating him.
Reida considers such a goal effectively suicidal.
Even so, Reida does not try to stop Eris from leaving.
She believes that trying to restrain Eris would be pointless, and silently watches her go, expecting her to die.
Later on, after Eris leaves the Holy Land, Reida and Isolte return to the Asura Kingdom’s royal capital, Ars.
There, Reida becomes involved in the political and military conflict around the Asura throne.
Reida eventually becomes one of Hitogami’s apostles.
This leads her to oppose Rudeus Greyrat and the Orsted faction in the Asura Kingdom.
After Ariel Anemoi Asura gains political victory over her brother, a celebratory party is held in a grand hall.
At this moment, Reida makes a dramatic entrance by slicing open the ceiling and dropping into the hall from above.
Once inside, she activates Hakudatsu Sword Realm.
With this, she paralyzes nearly everyone in the hall, freezing the entire battlefield in an instant.
However, Orsted senses the threat thanks to a warning from Rudeus.
He arrives on the scene and pierces Reida’s chest with a single strike before she can adapt or escape.
Reida dies there, killed in one blow by Orsted despite her status as Water God.
Her final stand becomes both a testament to her strength and a stark reminder of Orsted’s overwhelming power.
Eris Boreas Greyrat
Reida meets Eris during her visit to the Holy Land of the Sword, at Gal Farion’s request.
She helps Eris experience and understand the Water God Style, effectively preparing her to face such techniques in the future.
Reida believes that Eris cannot possibly defeat Orsted and that fighting him means certain death.
Even so, she chooses not to interfere with Eris’s resolve and lets her go her own way.
Later, during the Asura Kingdom conflict, Eris fights against Reida, who has become an apostle of Hitogami.
By this point, Eris is aligned with the Orsted faction through Rudeus Greyrat.
Isolte Cruel
Isolte Cruel is Reida’s granddaughter and disciple.
She respects Reida both as her master and as her grandmother.
Reida, in turn, sees Isolte as her successor.
She explicitly expresses her intention to entrust the Water God Style to Isolte in the future.
Despite Reida’s harsh personality, this relationship shows her capacity for familial affection and trust.
Isolte stands as the inheritor of Reida’s legacy and the future of the Water God title.
Orsted
Orsted and Reida once fought in the past.
At that time, Orsted was not in outright opposition to Hitogami, so he spared Reida’s life.
This encounter left a deep mark on Reida.
She knows firsthand the overwhelming power and fear that Orsted inspires.
Her shock at Eris’s desire to challenge Orsted stems directly from this experience.
To Reida, Orsted represents a level of strength that even a Water God cannot hope to reach.
In the end, Orsted is the one who kills Reida during the Asura Kingdom confrontation.
He defeats her in a single move, underscoring the gap between them.
Darius Silva Ganius
Darius Silva Ganius is Reida’s first love.
As a young prodigy who had grown arrogant from being called a genius, Reida incurred the wrath of a noble and faced retaliation.
Darius saved her from that revenge, and she fell in love with him.
Even back then, his face was not particularly handsome, but she believed he was a straightforward and genuinely good person.
When Reida later became swordsmanship instructor at the Asura royal court, she reunited with Darius.
To her dismay, both his body and character had become twisted and corrupted.
She was devastated by the change and eventually buried those memories under the weight of time.
Much later, after receiving guidance from Hitogami, she recalled those events and decided to repay the life-debt she owed him.
This sense of obligation is a major reason she becomes Hitogami’s apostle and acts on Darius’s behalf.
In the final battle, she sacrifices her life to buy time for Darius to escape.
Ariel Anemoi Asura
Reida does not serve Ariel directly but becomes one of the key figures disrupting Ariel’s rise.
After Ariel defeats her brother in political struggle, Reida attacks the celebration by cutting through the ceiling.
Her activation of Hakudatsu Sword Realm effectively freezes the party hall and endangers Ariel’s faction.
If not for the intervention of Orsted and Rudeus, Reida’s assault could have had catastrophic effects on Ariel’s camp.
Rudeus Greyrat
Reida does not have a personal, long-term relationship with Rudeus Greyrat.
However, their fates intersect during the Asura Kingdom conflict.
Rudeus, being part of Orsted’s faction, alerts Orsted to Reida’s attack.
Thanks to this warning, Orsted arrives in time to defeat Reida and prevent greater damage.
Indirectly, Rudeus is thus responsible for the end of Reida’s life.
Their relationship is primarily one of opposing sides in the broader war between Hitogami and Orsted.
Perugius Dola
Reida crosses blades with Perugius Dola and his familiars during a large-scale confrontation.
Using Hakudatsu Sword Realm, she manages to restrain Perugius and all his familiars simultaneously.
The author notes that Perugius could have escaped if he chose to, but he was still effectively held back.
This feat showcases Reida’s incredible area control and tactical value in group battles.
Aubert Corbett
Aubert Corbett is an ally hired by Darius.
Reida cooperates with him while working under Darius’s cause.
However, Reida plans to have Isolte kill Aubert once his job is done.
Her reasoning is to protect the honor and reputation of the Water God Style by eliminating inconvenient witnesses.
This plan reveals her ruthless pragmatism.
Even allies are expendable if they threaten the name of Water God.
Reida Ryia’s legacy rests on her long reign as Water God, her original ultimate technique, and the disciples who come after her.
Her creation of Hakudatsu Sword Realm and her status as a swordsman rivaling the lower ranks of the Seven Great World Powers make her one of the most formidable figures of her era.
Her personality—half brutal, half loyal—leaves complex impressions on those around her.
Through Isolte Cruel, the Water God Style and the name Reida Ryia are poised to continue into the next generation.
