Character Setting

Edit

Dryme is a male dragon in Farming Life in Another World, the eldest son and third child of Dors and Raimeiren, renowned as the Gate Dragon for halting the southward spread of monsters from the Forest of Death. He is the first dragon Hiraku Machio meets and maintains close ties with Great Tree Village.

In dragon form, his body length is approximately 30 meters, emphasizing a powerful, guardian-like presence. In human form, he appears as a tall, middle-aged man with a timid, gentle look.

He struggles with conversations on first meetings and comes across as shy with strangers. Despite that, he shows a caring, dependable side and enjoys good food and drink, often grumbling amiably to Hiraku Machio during visits.

He is the eldest son and third child of Dors and Raimeiren, born into a prominent dragon lineage. His duty as the Gate Dragon is to keep the Forest of Death’s monsters from moving south, a role that shapes much of his life and choices.

He shifts between an immense dragon form and a human form, enabling diplomacy and travel. As a guardian, he is capable of powerful aerial combat, evidenced by his readiness to counter threats such as wyverns, and he is routinely relied upon for long-distance transport.

With Hiraku Machio, he forms a friendly bond built on frequent visits, meals, and reliable gift-giving that far exceeds what he consumes.

Gucci advises him to visit Great Tree Village in year six to avoid hostility with Hiraku, and later counsels him against relocating due to the disruption his gatekeeping would cause.

Lastismoon is his daughter; after her move to Great Tree Village, he visits even more to see her, then resumes a moderate visiting pace after she has children.

Graffaloon is his future wife, whose later birth caused a mate-sensing misunderstanding that unfairly implicated him.

Hakuren’s move to Great Tree Village leads him to reduce visits to avoid awkward encounters.

He remains dutiful to his parents, Dors and Raimeiren, and is respected among dragon kin.

He supports the Minotaur tribe during their move to the future Second Village and aids early trade with Howlin Village.

He adores daikon, always harvesting it himself in Great Tree Village and enthusiastically researching daikon recipes.

He brings high-value gifts on each visit, habitually surpassing the cost of his food and lodging.

Because he stays overnight every visit, the village prepared a large villa for him, which later led Lastismoon and Graffaloon to mistakenly suspect infidelity.

The misunderstanding escalated into a year-seven assault on Great Tree Village, during which he had to intervene and explain the situation.

He once declared he wanted to relocate to the village but gave up after Gucci noted his gatekeeping work would trouble the residents.

Hiraku Machio once remarked to him, “Are you mistaking this place for a pub?” after one of Dryme’s gripe-filled, food-and-drink-heavy visits.

Year Six: Friendship with Great Tree Village

To avoid conflict with Hiraku Machio—who had shot down a wyvern from the Iron Forest—Dryme visits Great Tree Village on Gucci’s advice in year six.

He forges friendly relations and becomes the first dragon Hiraku meets, establishing regular contact thereafter.

Visiting Pattern, Gifts, and the Villa

He begins visiting frequently to eat, drink, and chat, reliably bringing gifts of greater value than his tab each time.

As he stays overnight every visit, the village provides a large villa for him, unintentionally sowing future misunderstandings.

Misunderstanding and Year Seven Assault

The villa and his frequent overnight stays lead Lastismoon and Graffaloon to wrongly suspect infidelity.

This suspicion triggers an attack on Great Tree Village in year seven, which Dryme helps to halt while clarifying the true circumstances.

Family-Driven Visits and Adjustments

After Lastismoon relocates to Great Tree Village, he visits even more under the pretext of seeing his daughter’s face.

Upon Hakuren’s relocation, he lowers his visiting frequency to avoid her, then returns to a steady pace after Lastismoon has children.

Trade and Transport

He volunteers as a transporter during early trade with Howlin Village, showcasing reliability beyond his gatekeeping role.

He later transports the Minotaur tribe, who become residents of Second Village, and remains at Great Tree Village for a time to watch over their settlement.

Culinary Passion and Daikon

He develops a deep passion for daikon, personally handling every daikon harvest in Great Tree Village.

His zeal extends to researching daikon dishes and experimenting with recipes, making culinary exploration a cheerful counterpoint to his serious duties.

Hobbies: Researching and cooking daikon-based dishes.
