Character Setting

Edit

Monokid (モノキッド) is one of the mascot characters and antagonists featured in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, appearing as part of a group called the Monokuma Kubs. With his siblings: Monotaro, Monosuke, Monodam, and Monophanie, they control the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles alongside Monokuma.

Monokid's appearance is similar to his father, Monokuma, but the part that is black on Monokuma is blue on him, though half of the blue on his face is white. Likewise, his eye is black with a red pupil, contrasting Monokuma's and he has bright pink cheeks. He has black chest hair and gray stars around both of his eyes,

Monokid's appearance seems to resemble the attire of the members of the popular hard rock band KISS. With Monokid and the band members having a star shape in their eyes, a Shoulder Armor and the way they both play the guitar.

Despite being a child robot, he has a deep and rough voice.

Monokid is a child-like robot. However, he also has a very bad mouth and a short temper, and he's considered the hooligan of the group. He is a noisy and vulgar bully. He enjoys rock music and playing his guitar, and occasionally shouts exaggerated high-pitched screams like a rockstar. He also apparently loves eating salmon and especially honey, which for some reason can make him drunk and mutter nonsense. In the bonus mode Ultimate Talent Development Plan, he is constantly seen lying on the floor, passed out from eating too much honey. As seen in the Anthology manga, as a robot he also likes to drink oil, though not as much as honey.

He appears to be the most unintelligent Monokub. He doesn't pay attention when others are talking and will randomly spout incoherent nonsense, making him the main cause of conversations getting derailed. He occasionally messes up words or says things backward, and loves to shout his catchphrase "Hell yeah!" He usually repeats things a lot whenever he gets excited over something.

Monokid is also most violent out of the siblings. He gets very excited about violence, claiming that it "turns him on"; He also enjoys goriness and loves it when Monophanie pukes from the sight and thought of blood and gore. He also habitually bullies Monodam, even though they should be comrades, and seems to use any opportunity he gets to abuse him for the tiniest reasons or for no reason at all. It's said that this is the reason why Monodam has closed his heart. Monokid also habitually breaks his guitar whenever he gets angry.

Despite his general aggressiveness, he sometimes panics and shouts loudly and fearfully, like whenever his father is angry or at one point when Kaede confronts him. He also seemed to panic and yelled for Shuichi and Kaede to wait when they ran away from his Exisal, seemingly not expecting that to happen. He also tells Monophanie to shut up and threatens her with bullying when she calls him a dummy. All of this might imply that he is secretly insecure. He also shows a more softer side during a scene in the Ultimate Talent Development Plan, after he crashes on a student and then feels bad about it and offers them honey. Following his death, Monotaro also claimed that Monokid had a "soft spot for abandoned kitties".

After Monokuma rebuilt him and the Kubs were under a threat of being exploded if they didn't make good arguments, Monokid was scared at first, but quickly seemed to lose the focus and just wanted to "spout bollocks and be a nuisance" and constantly kept shouting "hell yeah". After not listening to Monophanie's advice and claiming that Monosuke would get blown up instead of him, he was blown up by Monokuma.

Controlling the Exisals

Monokid, along with the other Monokubs, are the only ones who can control the Exisals.

Monokid can control the Exisals on his command to manipulate the students into doing something since the Exisals carry dangerous weapons such as a saw and a gun. He also uses the Exisals to punish any students who break the school's rules.

Creation

Monokid, along with his four other siblings were created by Team Danganronpa, a group of people who created the famous reality show called Danganronpa, a series which tells the story about Killing Games. Monokid and the Monokubs' roles are to aid Monokuma in hosting the Killing Game. It is unknown when they were created and in which Killing Game they started to appear. Their most notable appearance is the last Killing Game entry, the 53rd season of the show.

Prior to the Killing School Semester

After the students woke up and left their classrooms, the Monokubs began to lure them to gym by chasing them down with the Exisals. After everybody went into place, the Monokubs burst in with their mechs, but after realizing that they're off-script and shouldn't be in those for their first appearance, they all jump out in a flashy introduction sequence to appear face-to-face with the students. Although they've all got many questions to ask the bears, Monokid and the others ignore the students to tend to other matters, such as trying to be menacing, until they realize they've completely screwed up, and haven't even given them their outfits or their "first memory" yet, to which they quickly correct their mistake and erase their memories of the event.

It was revealed that this event happened right before the 53rd Killing Game occurred, when the students' memories were about to be fabricated by Team Danganronpa.

Killing School Semester

After the students are put back into their respective places, the Monokubs reappear to make their proper on-script introduction, where they tell the students to explore the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles and meet their classmates, as they're all going to do an activity later. They occasionally pop up to explain certain functions of the school, such as the Ultimate Labs and the End Wall they're confined in. All the while Monokid keeps mixing up his lines, and proudly reveals that his fearsome bullying is what made Monodam the silent recluse he is today.

After all of the students have finished introducing themselves, Monokid and his siblings make an announcement to gather at the gym, as they've finally finished their preparations. Once everyone's arrived, they burst in to give their Exisals a proper introduction, and Monokid gets to do the honors of announcing the true nature of the Academy... However Monodam suddenly steals his line, and soon a fight breaks out between the Kubs. But just as they're about to duke it out, they hear a hauntingly familiar voice, the voice of their father, the one and only Monokuma.

Upon making his grand entrance to the scene, he beats his children silly for dragging out the Prologue, and explains the rules of the students' new lives in the Killing School Semester, with the Kubs coming in charge to explain the Class Trials. Monokid is especially thrilled for the Killing Game to begin, as just the thought of all the carnage that might happen gives him a rock hard RAGER! Which is only amplified by Monophanie puking over the topic. After taunting Kaede's flimsy attempts at protest, Monokuma and his Kubs triumphantly laugh at the dumbfounded students.

Monokuma and his Kubs pop up to taunt the students' failure in trying to cross the Death Road of Despair, with Monokid taking another dig at Monodam for fitting in with the rest of the worthless junk in the place, and encourages them to try and try again until they grasp the reality of their situation. Eventually, they stay in there for so long, Monokid and his siblings give their first ever nighttime announcement. When Kaede goes to her room, Monokid pops in to personally tip her off on an easy tactic to potentially kill someone, only to get chewed out by her and scurry off.

When Kaito Momota commits violence against Monokuma, the Monokubs pop up to squish him with the Exisals for breaking a school rule, with Monokid being particularly thrilled to finally get to crush one of the students to a pulp... only for them to accidentally kill Monokuma instead. Monokid is quick to blame Monodam for the murder, but as they gather his remains to eat in a big stew, he's very happy to suggest all the sorts of condiments that they could add.

But by the next day, Monokuma reappears, where he also reveals that while he has spares, the Monokubs don't, after all, who in this day and age would tolerate the "Death Is Cheap" trope? Right before licking them all as part of their "emotional reunion." He then announced his "Time Limit" motive, in which if a murder dosen't occur in 2 days, all of the students will be ripped to shreds by countless Monokumas. Monokid himself is thrilled with either option.

To celebrate Monokuma's return, Monokid decided to slam down honey jars like there's no tomorrow, resulting in him getting drunk out his mind and from then on, not only do the subsequent announcements chronicle his nasty hangover, but he generally becomes even more nonsensical than before, constantly spouting utter gibberish that isn't related to neither what the students or his siblings are saying at all.

Monokid along with the rest of the Kubs appear once again when Rantaro Amami is found dead. Later on during the investigation, the Kubs announce for the students to head to the basement and get their developed photos, where Monophanie gave them to Kaede and Shuichi while Monokid repeatedly questions Kaede about several personal documents.

Throughout the entirety of the 1st Class Trial, Monokid blurts out all sorts of nonsense, like how he's jonesin' for a racoon tail to chase his dragun, or how he cut off the leg before the poison spread, by spring, flowers will GrOoOoOoOw from the stump! After Kaede Akamatsu was voted as the blackened, the Monokubs pull out the Exisals to prevent the students from interfering with her execution, though this was stopped by Kaede. Monokid and his siblings assist Monokuma in her execution (and unintentionally, his own execution) by pulling on the ropes that hang her to death.

At the end of Kaede Akamatsu's execution, just as the giant spiked lid of the piano is about to crush her hanged corpse, as payback for all of the torment he inflicted, Monodam pushes Monokid right under the lid and straight to his demise, crushing his body completely and leaving only his decapitated head left, which disturbingly rolls down to the students' feet. Monotaro is shocked and Monophanie pukes in horror at this, but Monosuke dosen't mind much and Monokuma quickly moves on from his death, after all, he's still got 4 MORE cubs!

Monokid can be spotted in Chapter 3 as a ghost inhabiting the right creepy room out of the three, briefly appearing on the screen whenever his room is entered.

At the beginning of Chapter 5, Monokuma hosts his children's funerals absolutely heartbroken, though he doesn't even care enough to mention Monokid's name and his eulogy quickly devolves into him blaming them for their own deaths and to start wondering why they even existed. He and his siblings are briefly mentioned as Monokuma offers the hangar their Exisals are placed in, as he's got no use for them now that all the Monokubs are dead.

At the end of the 5th Class Trial, just before Kaito Momota's execution, Monokuma reveals he rebuilt his Monokubs and that they're active once again to pilot the Exisals and assist their father in the Mutual Killing Game. Though they still have their factory settings, so they don't remember anything that happened in their past lives and are quite confused at the point of the story they've just dropped into.

At the beginning of Chapter 6, Monokuma and the Monokubs in their Exisals arrive and threaten to destroy K1-B0 for damaging the school in an attempt to end the Killing Game, naturally Monokid feels right at home when looking to rip K1-B0 to shreds. K1-B0 reassures everyone to find the truth while he engages the Monokubs in combat, fighting them the entire time the others investigate he real truth about the Killing Game. After Shuichi gathers enough information, he proposes to Monokuma, the Kubs and K1-B0 to solve this confict with a Class Trial, Monokuma agrees to these terms and orders his children to remove K1-B0's weapons so that he can participate.

Right before the Final Class Trial, Monokuma tells his Kubs that they'll have pivotal roles in the Trial, and that he'll make sure they do their very best... By threathening them with a Monokub Detonator that'll blow them up if they don't comply. Naturally, they try to serve a more proactive role in the Trial, but since they don't know jack squat, most of their arguments comprise of things that have already been said or just plain nonsense that's easily disproven just as quickly as it's brought up. Despite their dire situation however, Monokid dosen't seem concerned in the slightest, still engaging in his normal loud-mouthed behavior and even taunting the others over it, so as expected, while being sure that Monosuke was gonna explode, Monokid winds up being the first of the Monokubs to be blown up.
