Tondabayashi Mitsuko is the wife of protagonist Kenzaburo Tondabayashi, an enthusiastic otaku just like her husband, with a particular fondness for isekai narratives. She readily accepted the abnormal situation that befell her husband. According to Kenzaburo Tondabayashi's recollections, she worked as a cosplay booth attendant in his circle when she was single.
Mitsuko is a part-time housewife; her specific job is unknown, though she is mentioned to be "at work" in Volume 2, Chapter 14 of the manga. She matches her husband in her dedication as a serious otaku. In her younger days, she even cosplayed and worked as a booth attendant at doujin events Kenzaburo Tondabayashi attended.
While she playfully describes Kenzaburo Tondabayashi as having "the mental age of a child," Mitsuko herself can launch into rapid-fire otaku discussions when excited. This makes them a wonderfully similar and devoted otaku couple. Her close bond with her daughter, Tondabayashi Hinako, resembles that of otaku friends. They share a great rapport, instantly striking iconic anime poses and reciting famous lines together.
Having read Michael Ende's "The Neverending Story" in middle school and consumed countless isekai stories since, Mitsuko readily accepted the unusual situation when Tondabayashi Hinako told her that Kenzaburo Tondabayashi's consciousness had entered the otome game "Magical Academy Love & Beast." Her impressive list of completed isekai works includes "Crest of the Royal Family," "Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru," and "Ramune & 40." The anime adaptation further expands her curriculum with "Magic Knight Rayearth," "Fushigi Yuugi," "The Twelve Kingdoms," "Aura Battler Dunbine," "Genmu Senki Leda," and "The Chronicles of Narnia."
Mitsuko supports Tondabayashi Hinako as both a mother and an experienced otaku, as they work together to find a way to bring her husband back to the real world. She also demonstrates good sense, similar to Kenzaburo Tondabayashi. This was evident when she admonished Tondabayashi Hinako for attempting to spoil unreleased "MajiBea" information on social media. Her voice actor is Honda Takako.
