Character Setting

Edit

Ougon Ball is a male A-Class professional hero from the series One-Punch Man, known for his slingshot-based fighting style and shape-memory metal spheres that transform into missile-like projectiles.

Name: Ougon Ball

Gender: Male

Hero Rank: A-Class, Rank 29 → later Rank 26

Age: 28

Affiliation: Hero Association

Voice Actor (anime adaptation): Sota Arai

Ougon Ball is an A-Class hero whose combat strength is highly regarded by the Hero Association.

He is often seen together with his fellow A-Class hero and drinking buddy Banehige, and the Association considers the two of them to be among the stronger fighters in their tier.

On the surface he appears laid-back and carefree, especially when drinking.

However, he has sharp powers of observation, can calmly read enemy movements, and makes cool-headed tactical decisions in battle.

He operates mainly around Z-City, where he is assigned to routine disaster and monster presence surveys conducted by the Hero Association.

Within this role, he has gained a reputation as a dependable front-line hero despite not being in the top ranks of A-Class.

Weapon: Slingshot and Shape-Memory Spheres

Ougon Ball’s main weapon is a powerful slingshot.

He fires specially made iron spheres called shape-memory golden bullets, which transform into missile-like projectiles after being launched.

These projectiles have enough piercing power to punch through an iron plate 20 mm thick.

Because they change shape in flight, their trajectory and impact style are less predictable, giving him a technical edge over straightforward ranged attackers.

Combat Style

Ougon Ball fights primarily at mid-range, using angles, ricochets, and terrain to control the battlefield.

He prefers to set up situations where his opponent is hemmed in by walls or buildings, then uses bouncing shots to attack from multiple directions.

His relaxed personality hides a more methodical, trap-setting mentality in combat.

He can feign drunkenness or carelessness to lure enemies into cramped positions where his ricochet shots are most effective.

Special Move: Golden Breakout

His signature technique is “Golden Breakout.”

In this move, he fires multiple shape-memory golden bullets so they ricochet off surrounding surfaces, creating a barrage from all directions.

The attack is designed to overwhelm enemies who rely on straightforward vision or linear dodging.

Used in narrow spaces such as alleys, it becomes particularly dangerous, as bullets can repeatedly bounce and converge on the target.

Ougon Ball comes across as easygoing and somewhat carefree, especially during drinking sessions.

He enjoys going out for drinks with Banehige and does not easily lose his temper, even when provoked at the bar.

Underneath that relaxed exterior, he is more serious and thoughtful than he looks.

He can pretend to be drunk, lure enemies into a favorable location, and then calmly analyze their movements to set up a finishing blow.

He also has enough self-awareness to recognize the limits and risks of being a hero.

After experiencing overwhelming defeat, he shows a more jaded side, expressing frustration about the harsh reality of continuous battles against monsters and powerful foes.

Z-City Outskirts Investigation

During a routine Hero Association assignment, Ougon Ball is dispatched with Banehige to investigate the outskirts of Z-City, an area rumored to be inhabited by a “monster.”

While the rumor itself is unrelated, they encounter the monster Kombu Infinity during this mission.

Relying on the element of surprise, Ougon Ball opens the battle by firing his shape-memory golden bullets at Kombu Infinity.

However, the monster easily deflects the projectiles and counters using its tendril-like appendages.

Ougon Ball has his legs captured by these tendrils and is violently slammed into a building.

Despite his A-Class ranking and strong offensive capability, he is swiftly and decisively defeated in this encounter.

Encounter with Garou

At one of his favorite bars, Ougon Ball and Banehige are approached by Garou, who has come to declare war on heroes.

Ougon Ball pretends to be drunk and uses the opportunity to guide Garou into a narrow alley outside the bar.

In the alley, he takes advantage of the confined space and surrounding buildings, using ricochets to damage Garou’s right leg.

This showcases his tactical intelligence: he uses the environment and his weapon’s unique properties to maximize his damage output.

Believing he has the upper hand, he unleashes his ultimate technique, Golden Breakout, sending a deadly storm of bullets ricocheting from all directions.

However, Garou adapts mid-fight, tracking the ricochets with his eyes until he gets used to their paths, ultimately dodging every shot.

The final bullet is deflected, leaving Ougon Ball completely disarmed and vulnerable at close range.

When Banehige rushes in to help, he too is overwhelmed and defeated by Garou’s superior combat ability.

After seeing himself and his ally so thoroughly outclassed, Ougon Ball can do little more than spit out a bitter line about how things cannot go on like this forever.

This moment underscores both his frustration and the massive power gap between average A-Class heroes and monsters or martial artists at Garou’s level.

Banehige

Banehige is both Ougon Ball’s partner in hero work and his regular drinking companion.

The two are often deployed together by the Hero Association, and their synergy and combined battle capability are praised by the organization.

Both heroes are considered strong within A-Class, and they support each other in combat situations.

Their defeat at Garou’s hands highlights that even reliable mid-to-high-tier heroes can be outmatched by exceptional enemies.

The name “Ougon Ball” pairs neatly with the hero Metal Bat, forming a “bat and ball” theme reminiscent of baseball.

This parallel suggests that the author intentionally designed their names as a playful reference to the sport.
