Character Setting

Edit

Delling Rembran is a strict and powerful leader in "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury." He stands out as the President of the huge Benerit Group and also serves as the boss of several other organizations. Known for his cold, sometimes ruthless decisions, he is famous for banning GUND technology after witnessing how dangerous it could be. Key events in his life include being the reason for a tragic incident called the Vanadis Incident and surviving an assassination attempt to help his daughter, Miorine Rembran. His complex relationship with his daughter, his iron will, and his ability to control others put him at the very heart of the story's drama.

Delling Rembran is shown as an older man with white hair and a stern face.

After several years, he appears with much grayer hair, looking quite older than before.

His years in space have made him age faster, which is shown through his physical weakness and older look.

Delling is very strict, firm, and often seen with a serious expression.

He is a former soldier who hates weapons that treat people like disposable tools.

He believes that weapons should only be used to kill others, and pilots must bear the guilt for their actions.

He usually ignores other people's opinions if he thinks his decision is right.

Delling is willing to make cold, business-like choices, even abandoning failing companies without hesitation.

Even though he seems harsh, he can give honest advice and even cares for his daughter in his own awkward way.

Delling Rembran once held a high position in Grassley Defense Systems.

He saw many battles and decided that weapons should not kill both the enemy and their own pilots.

Because of this, he pushed for banning the dangerous GUND Format and started the Vanadis Incident, using his power without asking others.

This event earned him fame and made him the President of the Benerit Group, leader of the Cathedral oversight, and director of Asticassia School.

He was also key in making the school’s "duel rules" and even made his daughter, Miorine, a prize for the winners.

His wife, Miorine’s mother, had already died before the main story.

Delling is an expert in politics and business management.

He runs several big organizations at once, showing his strong leadership skills.

He is skilled in making speeches that move people, and in making bold, sometimes risky choices that change the story.

With Miorine Rembran

His relationship with Miorine is cold and rocky.

Miorine feels her father is unfair and does not care for her, calling him a "double standard jerk dad."

Delling treats Miorine harshly, and his focus on power makes things worse between them.

But when Miorine bravely starts her own company, he gives honest business advice and even invests in her plan.

He once saved Miorine at great risk to himself, showing he secretly cares as a father, even if he is bad at showing it.

With Others

Delling is feared and respected by many in the Benerit Group.

Most leaders follow his orders without question.

He is very tough on those who stand against his plans, except for rare moments when he shows flexibility or concern.

"I have been through many battles and reached one conclusion. Weapons should only exist to kill, with no excuses. By holding a pure tool for killing, we must accept the sin that comes with it..."

"But the Vanadis and Ox Earth Mobile Suits are different. They take not only the enemy's life, but the pilot’s life too. That is not a tool, that is a curse. The punishment for killing must be given by people, not machines. War should always be about people fighting people, not letting machines bear the cost."

"Draw the trigger yourself. Accept the sin you cannot atone for. War, killing—this is how it must be. And we at Cathedral deny all Gundams!!"

The Vanadis Incident and Benerit Leadership

At the start, Delling pushes for the ban of GUND Format weapons after seeing how they can kill even their own pilots.

He orders the attack on Vanadis Institute, starting a tragedy known as the Vanadis Incident.

This action brings him fame, and he becomes the President of the Benerit Group and director at Asticassia School.

He makes tough business moves, cutting off failing companies, and sometimes twists the rules to keep his power.

Despite these harsh actions, he is troubled by the endless violence, even when trying to bring order.

Delling and the Ban on Gundams

After seeing how hard it is to erase GUND technology completely, Delling keeps a close watch on new Mobile Suits.

When Suletta Mercury and her Gundam Aerial defeat Guel Jeturk in a duel, he quickly sends in security to arrest them.

Even after learning that the Aerial does not show dangerous signs, Delling refuses to accept it, just saying, "That is a Gundam. I have decided it is."

But when major Benerit leaders support using Aerial, he steps back for the time being and allows it.

Miorine’s New Company

During a party, against criticism, Miorine bravely declares she will start GUND-ARM Inc. (Gundam Corporation).

Delling points out she lacks trust and experience, but when she bows her head and asks for his investment, he puts in 3%, which helps others join too.

His decision is seen as a possible change in his views—maybe he is reflecting on his past actions.

Attack on Quetta Plant

While visiting Quetta Plant, Delling becomes the target of a terrorist attack by "Dawn of Fold."

He is badly hurt, falling into a coma after saving Miorine from falling rubble.

He remains unconscious for over a month, during which time Miorine is forced to take his place as Benerit President and is drawn into the dangerous Quiet Zero plan.

Recovery and The Final Battle

Near the end, Delling wakes up from his coma.

He cannot speak, but listens to Miorine’s determination and sends her to fight Quiet Zero.

Working with Guston Parche, he reaches out to the Space Assembly League and stops them from attacking, showing he is still a strong leader.

He witnesses the end of Quiet Zero and the final break up of the Benerit Group.

Aftermath

Three years later, Delling appears at a hearing for former Benerit Group leaders with Sarius Zenelli.

He is faced with the anger and grief of those who lost loved ones during the events.

Delling’s first name comes from Norse mythology and means "dawn."

His wife's name, Notelet, also comes from Norse myth and means "night."

Their daughter, Miorine, completes this theme.

It is suggested that living in space makes people age faster, explaining his quick change in appearance.

In Japanese trivia, the voice actor was told to play him with an image of King Lear.

Delling was the cause of the tragedy that killed Suletta’s father, making him Suletta’s enemy.

His very strict methods, while harsh, sometimes led to good results much like strong CEOs in real life.

He is not a “toxic parent” but instead seems to be an awkward, strict father who struggles to show his care.
