Character Setting

Edit

Joshua Phrygianos is a boisterous yet kind-hearted Qwaser who manipulates the element Roentgenium, though this makes him an outcast among his peers due to its rarity in nature.

Despite being considered a third-rate element user and often underestimated, Joshua's wit, cooking skills, and sincerity have won him many friends and allies.

Joshua carries himself with a bold presence, confidently asserting his identity at every opportunity.

His outward demeanor often borders on comedic, yet he always maintains a sense of dignity.

Joshua refers to himself as "ore-sama," exuding self-importance and humor, but this is just one facet of his friendly and approachable character.

He is self-proclaimed as a genius, but his genuine honesty ensures that he is rarely disliked by those around him.

Joshua is extremely sensitive to sexual topics, two left feet when it comes to intimacy, fainting at the mere sight of nudity.

He has a habit of mispronouncing names, calling Tomo Yamanobe "Akari" even after being corrected, and thinks little of the mistake.

Joshua was born in a small, conflict-ridden village in a region between Europe and Asia.

He and his younger sister Geeta survived while their younger siblings were killed in war.

He dreams of rising through the ranks as an Adept, both to provide for his surviving family and to prove himself to those who once scorned him.

Joshua was often looked down upon by other Adept candidates because Roentgenium, his element, does not naturally occur and is thus considered useless in battle.

Despite hardships, Joshua’s true strength lies in his familial devotion and his drive to overcome his limitations.

Joshua is a Qwaser capable of manipulating the element Roentgenium, a synthetic and extremely rare element.

Initially mocked for being unable to use his power effectively, his determination leads him to strike a dangerous bargain with the Golden Qwaser for the ability to wield Group 11 elements at great personal cost.

He is skilled in both cooking and sewing, making him handy and resourceful in many non-combat situations.

Joshua is also knowledgeable in a broad range of subjects beyond his Qwaser abilities.

His younger sister Geeta seems to look down on him publicly, but secretly holds deep admiration and affection for her brother.

Joshua's earnest personality and domestic talents earn him favor among allies, making him easy to get along with.

He encounters Tomo Yamanobe and initially becomes involved with her as part of a plan, but ends up feeling genuinely sympathetic.

Joshua fights alongside and against figures like Alexander Nikolaevich Hell, Mafuyu Oribe, and Ekaterina Kurae.

After severing ties with the Adepts, he and Geeta find protection under Yuri.

Joshua is a talented cook and often prepares meals for others.

He is handy with a needle and thread, capable of sewing clothes and repairing garments.

Joshua tends to grandstand about his abilities but is easily flustered in embarrassing situations, especially those involving intimacy.

He is quick to laugh at himself and can see the humor even in his own blunders.

"I am a genius! There is nothing I cannot do—except maybe handle this... embarrassment."

"No matter how many times you tell me, I’ll still call you Akari. It suits you!"

"People may call me useless, but I’ll show them the power of a true Qwaser!"

Encounter with Tomo Yamanobe

Joshua first encounters Tomo Yamanobe with the intention of using her as bait to lure out Alexander Nikolaevich Hell and Mafuyu Oribe.

However, unable to withstand embarrassment, he faints at the sight of Tomo’s nudity and fails to extract her Soma.

Chastised and encouraged by Tomo, he retreats, claiming he will quit the Adepts but soon becomes a servant of Magnolia.

Geeta’s Capture and Joshua’s Resolve

Upon hearing of Geeta’s capture, Joshua bargains with the Golden Qwaser, sacrificing his own life span in exchange for the forbidden power to control Group 11 elements.

With Anastasia on loan from Ekaterina Kurae, he travels to Japan alone to rescue Geeta.

Joshua makes a desperate stand against Alexander Nikolaevich Hell, even risking his life, and loses his right arm in the process.

He and Geeta are later sheltered by Yuri for protection.

Battle Against the Golden Tyrant

After missing the chance to defeat the Golden Tyrant, Joshua is caught—with Geeta—as a hostage along with Astarte.

He and his sister are held in the hospital that serves as the Kousei Project’s headquarters.

Joshua ultimately escapes with the help of Mafuyu Oribe and Aoi Kuchiba, joining Alexander's group to fight against the Kousei Project alongside his sister.
