Maaa

Maaa is a Narehate residing in the village of Ilblu. Her whimsical and cute exterior features a peculiar blend of elements, including a right hand shaped like a male organ and a notably vivid, unpleasantly dirty butt. Adding to her unique traits, she is said to have a distinctive body odor described as "like dried poop, but gentler."

Her original name and appearance before becoming a Narehate are unknown, as she can only utter "Maa-aa!" This led Riko to name her Maaa. During their initial encounter, Maaa inadvertently injured Meinya by playing with her a little too roughly. This act incurred the "liquidation" penalty from the village.

As a consequence, all her cherished plushies were confiscated and converted into value, and she also lost some body parts. However, Maaa reappeared to save Riko and Meinya when they were in danger, demonstrating her strength. The body parts she lost regenerated, though their color changed. Following this, she began accompanying Riko and Meinya throughout the village on their exploration.

Prior to the second season of the TV anime, a plushie of Maaa was produced. It faithfully reproduced not only her cute face but also her infamous dirty butt. Even the plushies that Maaa had confiscated were also produced as merchandise.

In 2023, a Maaa dakimakura cover was offered as a prize in an online lottery. This particular lineup also notably included a Bondrewd merchandise item.

For a long time, fans debated Maaa's original form before she became a Narehate. Theories ranged from her being a young child due to her inability to speak and love for plushies, to being an old man because of her dirty butt, all assuming she was once a human explorer who drifted to Ilblu.

However, after the anime broadcast, Akihito Tsukushi clarified via a tweet on October 13th that Maaa is not a human who transformed into a Narehate. She is actually a cell-like entity created by the village itself. This creation uses the accumulated "value" and the collective signals from the villagers.

During a radio broadcast featuring the voice actors, Maaa was further described as "fairy-like," revealing an unexpected origin that sets her apart from human Narehate.
