James

James is not typically present among his peers during the Selection. He is the proprietor of the gym and is active as a member of the Douglas Team. His signature piercings further accentuate his cool allure, and his occasional moments of infatuation with Lou (the character who possesses Louise's “face”) reveal traces of innocent, boyish affection.

His "Soot Ability" allows him to freely manipulate soot, shaping and fixing it mid-air. The scope for application is vast, as he can also interfere with other individuals' soot abilities, making him a potential game-changer in any conflict. When he was listed by the Disciplinary Team as an executive figure among the Sootless Hunters, he demonstrated reliable combat strength by decisively neutralizing Loretta's furious assault after she lost her temper.

However, the Douglas Team’s attempt to use the Sootless Hunting incident for political gain ended in complete failure, ultimately resulting in James being sent to solitary confinement as punishment.
