Character Setting

Edit

Suzune Amano is the protagonist of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica spin-off manga, "Puella Magi Suzune Magica." A mysterious transfer student, she appears cheerful at school while living at a newspaper delivery shop. However, she carries a hidden, dark identity as the infamous serial killer targeting magical girls, known as "Kirisaki-san." Haunted by her traumatic past and the truth behind magical girls, Suzune’s motivations and complex powers define her fate. Her story is one of tragedy, vengeance, and fleeting hope.

Suzune Amano stands at 152.6 cm tall and weighs 42.0 kg. Her blood type is O.

She is recognizable by a tear mole under her left eye and medium-length hair, usually tied with a protective charm.

In her magical girl form, Suzune wears a gray, revealing coat. Her Soul Gem is gray, worn as a cross-shaped necklace.

Her weapon of choice is a giant sword resembling a box cutter.

Suzune typically presents a gentle and smiling demeanor at school, making her appear approachable and kind-hearted.

However, beneath this facade lies a deeply conflicted and cold persona who unflinchingly targets other magical girls for assassination, acting with precise efficiency.

She is haunted by past trauma and resolute in her grim mission, yet her actions are driven by a complex mixture of sorrow, obligation, and remembrance.

As a child, Suzune witnessed the murder of her parents at the hands of a Witch.

She was saved by Tsubaki Mikoto, a magical girl, inspiring her to make a contract with Kyubey wishing to "become a magical girl like Tsubaki."

Suzune fought alongside Tsubaki until she tragically learned the truth—that magical girls inevitably become Witches.

After Tsubaki's transformation into a Witch, Suzune’s worldview shattered, and she resolved to prevent new Witches from being born by targeting magical girls before their descent.

Suzune’s magical abilities are multifaceted and formidable:

  • Weapon: Wields a giant sword, akin to a box cutter, specializing in precise and lethal slashes.
  • Skill: Masters stealth, capable of erasing her presence to the extent even Kyubey cannot detect her.
  • Copying Witch Abilities: Can copy one ability from a defeated Witch, imprinting it onto her sword. Previously, she would overwrite the ability each time, but after defeating Tsubaki, she stuck with fire-based magic.
  • Signature Spells:
  • *Heat Haze*: Bends light to become invisible and undetectable.
  • *Flame Dance*: Generates and controls multiple flaming swords that attack foes from afar.
  • *Cherry Blossom Fire*: Unleashes a powerful burst of flame, channeling Tsubaki's magic and powered through charms containing the names of those she's killed.

Suzune targets her opponents’ Soul Gems with pinpoint accuracy, choosing swift methods to minimize suffering.

  • Tsubaki Mikoto: Mentor, savior, and inspiration. Tsubaki’s fate deeply shapes Suzune’s motives and emotional scars.
  • Matsuri Hinata & Hanabira Hinata: Fellow magical girls she becomes entangled with, especially as her actions and history are revealed.
  • Kyubey: The contract-maker. Like other magical girls, Suzune’s tragic journey is tightly linked to Kyubey’s manipulations.

  • Suzune’s concept was initially as an antagonist and considered to be around 18 years old.
  • Her visual theme—gray and flame—is influenced by her burning desire for revenge and the imagery of turning enemies to ashes.
  • The charms tied in her hair symbolize “never forgetting an opponent,” inspired by her late mentor Tsubaki.
  • In "Magia Record," she appears as a transfer student aiming to hunt magical girls in Kamihama City prior to the main events of the original series.

Introduction & The Double Life

Suzune Amano transfers to Akanegasaki Middle School as a first-year student, living alone and working at a newspaper shop.

Though outwardly cheerful, rumors of a "Kirisaki-san"—a mysterious perpetrator targeting young girls—follow her.

Suzune's dark side emerges after school, hunting magical girls by asking their names and killing them soon after, adding their names to the charms in her hair.

Tragic Origins & Downward Spiral

Her parents were murdered by a Witch, and she was rescued by Tsubaki Mikoto, a magical girl who became her idol.

Suzune made a contract with Kyubey hoping to emulate Tsubaki, fighting Witches at her side.

The truth that magical girls become Witches is revealed to her after Tsubaki’s own transformation.

Determined to spare others from becoming monsters, Suzune turns her blade on magical girls, believing it a mercy.

Encounters in Kamihama City

In "Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story," Kyubey informs Suzune of a gathering of magical girls in Kamihama City, beyond the Incubator's usual influence.

Suzune arrives to hunt magical girls, nearly killing Kokoro Awane but ultimately failing.

Her plans are complicated further after a duel with Akira Shin and an encounter with Miyu Jun, as disguises and misinformation thwart Suzune’s attacks.

The “Kirisaki-san” Rumors

A month later, rumors of a serial killer targeting teenage girls spread, and "The Rumor of the Kirisaki-san with Memories" draws Suzune to further investigate.

She becomes embroiled with others caught in the same rumor, including Hanabira Hinata and Matsuri Hinata, revisiting memories and bonds with Tsubaki and confronting her own guilt.

Final Battles and The End

It is revealed that Suzune’s crusade was fanned by the manipulations of Hanabira Hinata.

Upon discovering her own motivations and memories have been tampered with, Suzune nearly succumbs to despair.

Encouraged by Matsuri Hinata, Suzune regains her conviction and faces Hanabira in a final battle.

With Matsuri's support, they defeat the Witch that Hanabira becomes, and Suzune uses a Grief Seed to save Matsuri.

Attempting to erase Matsuri's memories but failing, Suzune chooses to end her own life, peacefully entrusting her wishes to Matsuri.

  • Suzune's character was created and designed by GAN.
  • Her storyline explores themes of trauma, sacrifice, and the cost of mercy—highlighting how the cycle of suffering in the world of magical girls can produce both monsters and fragile hopes.
