Klem is the Demon Lord of Souls and the final boss of the RPG Cross Reverie in How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord. She currently lives as a young girl, retaining overwhelming power despite her childlike appearance.
She commonly takes the form of a small, cute girl, which she uses to live among people with minimal suspicion. This form belies her immense magical and physical might.
Her alternate form, Demon Lord Krebskulm, manifests when her emotions spiral out of control. In this state she resembles a fusion of crustacean and human, gaining monstrous size and power.
Klem loves biscuits and treats them as a vital part of her daily happiness. She speaks with a distinctive, declarative cadence and often ends her sentences with a playful emphatic tag.
She rejects pointless destruction and refuses to kill humans because that would mean no more biscuits. She empathizes deeply with the women of Rem Galleu’s lineage, viewing their resentment of the Demon Lord as natural.
She sees herself as an “ordinary person forced to bear an extraordinary fate,” and gravitates toward kindness. She is affectionate and trusting toward Rem Galleu and Shera L. Greenwood, and unexpectedly warms to Takuma Sakamoto as well.
In city life she becomes locally famous as a gourmet critic. Her refined palate and blunt honesty make her a minor celebrity.
Klem’s soul was sealed across generations within Rem Galleu’s family line. Edelgard orchestrated her resurrection, bringing Klem back into the world as a specific character.
Upon revival, Klem initially lacked memories of her past as the Demon Lord. Even after regaining them, she chose to continue living peacefully as a young girl rather than embracing indiscriminate destruction.
She is fully aware that she is the Demon Lord. However, pure-blooded demons such as Ouro and Modinaram deride her as a “failure” for rejecting wanton ruin.
Her power as a Demon Lord remains intact, even in her child form. She can dominate opponents formidable enough to give elite fighters like Galford serious trouble.
When Rem Galleu was on the brink of death, Klem awakened into her rampaging Demon Lord Krebskulm state. In that form she gains overwhelming strength but loses much of her reason and intelligence.
Takuma Sakamoto has placed slave magic upon Klem to restrict parts of her behavior. Whether those bindings truly function as intended remains unclear.
Rem Galleu: Klem adores her and is fiercely protective, awakening when Rem is gravely injured. She resonates with the generational suffering in Rem’s family.
Shera L. Greenwood: Klem becomes fond of Shera, whose biscuits helped shape Klem’s resolve not to slaughter humans. Shera’s kindness anchors Klem’s calmer side.
Takuma Sakamoto: Klem’s attachment to him was unexpected even to Edelgard. His slave magic and decisive interventions influence Klem’s actions without fully controlling her.
Edelgard: The architect of Klem’s resurrection, who predicted Klem’s bond with Rem but not her attachments to Shera and Takuma. Edelgard’s expectations only partly matched reality.
Emile Bichelberger: Part of the group that rescued Rem during Klem’s rampage. Their success helped calm Klem’s emotions.
Galford: A benchmark of martial prowess who struggles against foes Klem can overpower even in her child form. His battles highlight Klem’s true strength.
Ouro and Modinaram: Pure-blooded demons who scorn Klem as a “failure” for rejecting indiscriminate destruction. Their disdain underscores Klem’s philosophical divergence from demon orthodoxy.
Her nickname is Krum, reflecting her cute, casual persona. The contrast between “Krum” and her true title, Demon Lord Krebskulm, underscores her dual nature.
Biscuits are her favorite snack, and their availability directly informs her decision not to exterminate humanity. Food is a surprisingly powerful moral compass for her.
She is known in the city as a sharp-tongued, discerning gourmet critic. Locals trade stories about her exacting standards and unexpected culinary wisdom.
“I won’t destroy humans, because then I couldn’t eat biscuits.” Simple, sincere, and decisive.
“It’s only natural for you to resent the Demon Lord.” A statement of empathy toward Rem’s lineage.
“I am the Demon Lord, but I choose not to be cruel.” Her creed in a single breath.
Origins and Resurrection
Klem’s soul was sealed for generations within Rem Galleu’s bloodline. Edelgard engineered her return, reviving Klem as a specific character tied to Cross Reverie’s final boss.
Life as a Little Girl
After revival, Klem lacked her former memories and lived quietly as a child. Even after her memories returned, she continued this stance, valuing companionship and peace.
Shera L. Greenwood’s biscuits became Klem’s beloved food, shaping Klem’s rule against killing humans. She bonded with Rem and Shera, and—unexpectedly—even with Takuma Sakamoto.
Rampage and Calming
When Rem was mortally wounded while protecting Klem, the shock and grief triggered Klem’s rampage into Demon Lord Krebskulm. Her power soared while her reason diminished, and she fought with overwhelming ferocity.
Takuma Sakamoto struck her with a secret technique at a critical moment. Upon learning from Shera and Emile Bichelberger’s group that Rem had been rescued, Klem’s sadness subsided and she calmed down.
Current Status
Klem maintains her child form and peaceful lifestyle. She remains unimaginably strong, avoids meaningless destruction, and is affectionately embedded in the lives of Rem and Shera.
She is still bound—at least nominally—by Takuma Sakamoto’s slave magic. Whether those bindings truly limit her remains an open question.
Aliases: Klem, Krum, Demon Lord Krebskulm. Titles: Demon Lord of Souls; final boss of Cross Reverie.
