Mikado Momodera is a supporting character in TOUGEN ANKI, a young prodigy officer of the Momotaro Agency who struggles between his sense of justice, his compassion for demons, and the brutality of the organization he serves.

Mikado combines a very strong sense of justice with a genuinely kind and gentle heart.

He is one of the rare Momotaro who actively tries not to kill demons that are helpful to humans or that pose no danger.

Because of this, he has his own personal rule: even if the target is a demon, he will not execute them if they possess a righteous or innocent heart.

However, once he judges a demon as harmful to humans even a single time, he becomes utterly merciless and will no longer listen to anything they say.

This duality makes him unusual among the Momotaro Agency: he can be warm and empathetic, yet terrifyingly decisive when he believes someone threatens others.

He has no hesitation about pulling the trigger once his judgment is made, and he does not allow his emotions to waver in those moments.

Despite the harsh environment around him, he does not wallow in self-pity.

He directs his guilt and regret inward, especially about his treatment of Shiki Ichinose, and uses that as fuel to seek a better path.

Mikado became a vice-captain of a Momotaro Agency unit at just 19, marking him as a genius within the organization.

His talent and leadership potential are highly evaluated by figures like Tsukuyomi Momoka and Masumi Yodogawa.

He first meets Shiki Ichinose at a festival, where neither of them knows the other’s true identity.

They quickly bond over their shared love of guns, games, and movies, becoming close friends who hang out at the cinema and cafes.

During that time, Shiki uses a disguise and the false name “Natsu,” while Mikado himself is disguised as a police officer.

Their relationship is built on genuine connection, not on rank or species, which later makes their conflict especially painful for Mikado.

Eventually, Mikado hears suggestive comments from his superior Shinya Momoiwa and other Momotaro that hint Shiki might be a demon.

He initially refuses to believe it and continues to trust Shiki.

However, due to Shinya’s plotting, Mikado encounters Shiki at an arson scene secretly orchestrated by Shinya’s subordinate.

There, Mikado learns that Shiki is truly a demon and mistakenly believes Shiki caused the fire and harmed humans.

Convinced Shiki is now “a dangerous demon who harms people,” Mikado flips from trust to hostility in an instant.

He reveals his own identity as a Momotaro and attempts to kill Shiki as an enemy, ruthlessly following his own rule.

Later, after facing Shiki’s continued concern for him even while Shiki is in a berserk state, Mikado realizes Shiki was never the villain he thought.

He understands that Shiki was innocent and that he himself was manipulated, which hits his conscience hard.

Through Naito Mudano, Mikado learns more about demons and the possibility of coexistence between demons and Momotaro.

This conversation becomes a turning point: Mikado decides that his true mission is to pursue dialogue and reconciliation with demons rather than blind extermination.

After the major battles where Shiki’s situation comes to light, Mikado meets Shiki again, offering a heartfelt apology and achieving reconciliation as friends.

They reaffirm their bond, and Mikado chooses to act on the idea of coexistence between demons and Momotaro, inspired by what he learned from Naito Mudano.

Later, Mikado is summoned to Momotaro Agency Headquarters as someone who personally knows Shiki.

At that assembly, he openly advocates for a path of coexistence between demons and Momotaro directly in front of the leadership.

Because the Momotaro Agency is built on the doctrine that “demons must be killed,” his ideas are treated as dangerous and abnormal.

As punishment, he is transferred to the Kirishima Unit in Kagoshima and demoted from vice-captain to a regular soldier.

Within his new unit, he becomes the target of bullying, lynching, and discrimination by fellow Momotaro.

Despite this abuse, he does not break; he accepts his treatment as minor compared to the harm he inflicted on Shiki.

However, he is deeply troubled by the practical problem of how to actually realize meaningful dialogue with demons.

He has the conviction but lacks a concrete method, which leaves him emotionally strained and searching for answers.

During the God Gate arc, Mikado secretly begins operating on his own in Kagoshima to contact demons directly.

He endures harassment and violence from Kirishima Unit members while quietly pursuing his new ideal.

Through his efforts, he comes into contact with a demon boy named Fumiya and a demon village where demons live quietly among themselves.

Mikado forms bonds with them, observing firsthand that demons can live peacefully and do not inherently wish to harm humans.

Unfortunately, he was being covertly tailed by other Momotaro.

Because of this, the village’s location is exposed, and he is forced to watch helplessly as the village is attacked and ravaged.

The Momotaro attackers justify their violence as “justice,” slaughtering demons with glee, even when it means sacrificing ordinary humans.

This scene horrifies Mikado, shattering any remaining illusions he had about his organization and forcing him to confront the true evil within the Momotaro doctrine.

During the chaos, Fumiya goes berserk and ultimately dies, another casualty of the Momotaro’s brutality.

Witnessing Fumiya’s death alongside the massacre of innocent demons hits Mikado extremely hard and deepens his resolve to oppose what the Momotaro have become.

Mikado loses consciousness amid the incident but is rescued by Naoshi, who reveals the deeper truth about the Momotaro and their history.

This knowledge steels Mikado’s determination to act against the agency’s corrupt ideology.

However, before he can put his new resolve fully into action, Mikado is captured and restrained by Banji.

Even so, his inner direction is now clear: he will no longer accept the Momotaro’s version of “justice” at face value.

Overview

Mikado’s ability is called Yamata no Orochi.

Like Shiki Ichinose’s power, it allows him to manifest various firearms using a specialized bacteria he emits.

His ability closely resembles Shiki’s blood-related weapon manifestation, but with a unique twist in how he controls and moves with his guns.

He is a natural genius at using this power, showing advanced control over both firepower and mobility.

Weapon Creation and Control

Mikado generates firearms by transforming bacteria he releases from his body into guns and heavy weapons.

These manifested weapons are then connected to a bacterial “band” or “belt” on his back.

He typically fights using four guns simultaneously, each attached to the band on his back.

He controls them as if they were extra limbs, allowing extremely flexible aiming and firing without needing to physically hold each gun.

Thanks to his exceptional talent, Mikado can increase the number of guns he manifests up to six.

He can freely adjust the power output of his shots, enabling him to switch between suppression fire, precision shooting, and high-destructive blasts.

High-Speed Movement

One of the defining features of Yamata no Orochi is Mikado’s use of recoil for movement.

He uses the force of his own gunfire to propel himself at high speeds, effectively using the kicks of multiple guns to launch and maneuver his body.

This technique allows him to dart across the battlefield, quickly change direction, and close or widen distance as needed.

Combined with multi-angle gunfire, he can overwhelm opponents with mobility and crossfire, making him extremely difficult to pin down.

Heavy Weapons and Special Armaments

Mikado is not limited to standard firearms.

He can also manifest rocket-propelled grenades and massive beam cannons, dramatically increasing his destructive capacity when necessary.

These heavier weapons make him effective against large targets, fortifications, and enemy groups.

They also reflect his personal love for guns and military hardware, turning his hobby into lethal battlefield expertise.

Even with such destructive tools at his disposal, Mikado’s moral compass remains central.

His struggle is not in what he can destroy, but in deciding when destruction can truly be called “justice”—a conflict that defines his growth throughout the story.
