Chiyo Sakura

The heroine of the story. She often plays the role of the straight man in comedic situations, but frequently switches to the funny role as well. She is a petite high school girl who has a crush on Nozaki from the neighboring class. She is in class 2-A, stands 145 centimeters tall, and her birthday is March 27th with blood type O. Her trademark is the large red polka-dot ribbons on both sides of her head. She has a younger brother in middle school.

She has an innocent and lively personality but is not very efficient and generally clumsy. At the beginning of the story, she tried to confess her feelings to Nozaki but ended up saying "I'm a fan," which led to a misunderstanding that she was a fan of his work, resulting in her receiving an autograph board and becoming Nozaki's assistant. The autograph board had the signature of Yumeno Sakiko, which made her realize that Nozaki is a famous shoujo manga artist. She is a member of the art club, mainly focusing on watercolor painting. She is good at filling in solid blacks but, like Nozaki and Mikoshiba, struggles with drawing backgrounds. Due to her adherence to basics, she is not good at applying them, and when she drew background characters, she copied them in unnatural poses. She is surprisingly good at going with the flow and often gets swept up in the atmosphere.

Since she has feelings for Nozaki, she generally agrees with whatever he does. Her ideal type of man is essentially Nozaki himself. However, as she started helping with Nozaki's work and spent more ordinary time with him, she temporarily forgot about her feelings for him. Nevertheless, she still reacts to Nozaki's unconscious gestures and actions, and sometimes takes unexpected actions due to being overly conscious of him.

In stories set before the main plot, her long period of unrequited love led her to forget her initial feelings, showing a stalker-like tendency by collecting items like straws and chalk used by Nozaki. However, as she became his assistant, she became someone he consults first when stuck, almost like his right-hand person. In issue 60, Nozaki even said, "It would be the most shocking if Sakura left."

In the TV anime version, the emotional journey from Chiyo's confession to the resolution of her unrequited love is the main focus of the story, serving as the foundation that supports the narrative.
