Character Setting

Edit

Lise Hohenstein is a former East German military officer and intelligence agent who served as a replacement pilot in the 666th TSF Squadron under the callsign Schwarz 9.

Date of Birth: June 28

Age: 18

Rank: Second Lieutenant

Affiliation: National People's Army (formerly), Ministry for State Security (Stasi) operative

Lise is the stepsister of Theodor Eberbach.

Three years ago, her entire family attempted to flee to West Germany.

They were captured by the Stasi during the escape, and she vanished without a trace afterward.

Her parents were playwrights, and their influence led her to join a theater club during her school years.

She is linguistically gifted and can speak multiple languages fluently.

Lise is extremely attached to her stepbrother Theodor.

She openly clings to him without hesitation, even in front of other squadron members, often baffling those around her.

This intense brother complex remains the one genuine emotional anchor in her fractured psyche.

Despite her high proficiency as a TSF pilot, she suffers from severe motion sickness specifically on boats.

No matter how violent the shaking of a tactical fighter gets, she handles it without issue, but even gentle waves on a ship reduce her to sickness almost immediately—a problem rooted in early childhood.

Lise suddenly arrived as a replacement pilot when Pham Thi-Rang's injury created a manpower gap.

Initially, the squadron welcomed her warmly due to her connection as Theodor's sister.

Yet her reappearance invited growing suspicion. The circumstances seemed far too convenient.

Her exceptional combat skills, flawless interpersonal relationships, and the timing of her return raised doubts among nearly every squad member.

Theodor himself began to suspect the truth.

Those suspicions proved correct. She was indeed a Stasi decoy agent—a "Stasi hound" deliberately planted to divert attention away from the real infiltrator.

Three years prior, Heinz Axmann captured her following the failed escape attempt.

What followed was an unrelenting hell of brutal torture and systematic sexual violence.

The Stasi recorded these sessions and held both the footage and her brother's safety over her as leverage.

Through extensive brainwashing and conditioning, the Stasi reshaped her into a loyal intelligence asset.

During the years before reuniting with Theodor, she served as both a TSF pilot and a honeytrap operative.

Her body became thoroughly trained in all manner of sexual manipulation, used to ensnare countless men and a small number of women for information extraction.

By the time of her reunion with Theodor, her mind was already shattered.

After revealing her true identity and allegiances, Lise dropped all pretense entirely.

She calmly took command of brutal interrogations against captured members of the 666th TSF Squadron.

She conducted these proceedings with a chilling composure, showing no hesitation.

Nevertheless, her childhood feelings for Theodor remained genuinely intact.

Amid the living nightmare of her espionage work, her love for her stepbrother became the sole seawall guarding her psyche from total collapse.

Unlike many fictional stepsister portrayals, Lise entered a physical relationship with her stepbrother.

When Theodor moved to rescue Irisdina Bernhard, Lise sortied to intercept him.

Emotional misalignment with Theodor caused her to lose all reason during the engagement.

Pham Thi-Rang attempted to intervene and stop her, but Lise killed her in action instead.

Branded an enemy by her brother after this act, she resolved to claim him by force.

On the battlefield, she ignored everything and everyone except Theodor.

She openly refused to coordinate with allies' tactics if she judged them doomed to fail, showing no concern for their total annihilation.

She carried a fatal flaw: whenever she lost sight of Theodor during combat, her reason shattered completely.

This weakness ultimately led to her defeat against him.

In both the novel and anime versions, Theodor kills Lise, though the circumstances differ notably.

Novel version: Her machine suffers catastrophic damage but she survives and is taken prisoner by rebel forces.

As the highest-ranking captive, she is made a scapegoat for civilian casualties during the Battle of Rathenow.

Rebel-allied dissidents demand Theodor prove his revolutionary resolve and personal integrity by executing her himself.

He obliges with a firing squad bullet.

Anime version: After losing a duel against Theodor, debris from her mangled machine inflicts a fatal wound.

Theodor grants her a mercy killing.

In both versions, she reveals Irisdina's imprisonment location with her dying breath before being shot.

She remained trapped in her brainwashing brain to the very end, yet every word she left behind was spun purely from thoughts of her brother.

In the event scenario *"Once More, Happy Days With You,"* Lise's confrontation with Theodor ends with both of their machines destroyed but both pilots surviving.

She becomes a prisoner of war.

When the detention facility comes under attack, she impulsively shields Pham Thi-Rang—who had treated her kindly while guarding her—from falling debris, falling into a comatose state as a result.

In her personal scenario route, she openly prioritizes seducing her brother over any espionage duties.
