Alto Surebrec (アルト・シュアブレック Aruto Shuaburekku) is a character in Gachiakuta. He is the biological father of Rudo Surebrec. He allegedly went on a killing spree and was thrown into the pit. He was also the one who saved Enjin when he was younger, giving him his current alias and what would become his Vital Instrument.
Being Rudo's father, Alto has many features that make them resemble one another, such as possessing similarly short, wavy white hair with darkened tips, as well as concentric ringed pupils. He has thick, light eyebrows and a short beard. Alto wore a white scarf with stitches along its edge and two arrow-like markings at each end, which he drapes over his cloak like a hood. His cloak, made of a darker fabric and composed of separated sections, had stitching at its edges and a lighter, pleated section at the bottom-most edge. Alto's gas mask was similar to a bandana, albeit with a respirator attached to it, and a joint attaching it to his cloak. It also had four tooth charms attached. Underneath his cloak, Alto wore a white tunic, a rectangular necklace, dark, baggy pants, and steel-tipped shoes.
Not much is known about Alto's personality. While he was remembered as a violent, homicidal killer by the people of the Sphere, Enjin remembers him as a kindly and soft-spoken man who saved him from the wastelands. In Enjin's flashback, Alto also displayed a laid-back and friendly personality, as well as some excitement for his future son, displaying care for Rudo. This makes his apparent deed of scarring Rudo's hands later a bit contradictory, possibly implying that said stories were fabricated, or that something happened in between those events.
When Enjin meets him again years later, he appears much more haggard and fearful, worried for Rudo's state if he stays on the Ground. His comment that he's reaching his limit and will soon "break down and disappear" is rather opaque, but it's possible this could mean he was succumbing to the mental pollution of using two pieces of the Watchman Series at the same time, which could've led to his current perception. Said second appearance also displays that patterns similar to Rudo's scars were present on his hands ever since he was a baby, implying that Alto was either truly innocent or that his actions somehow made those scars spread even further.
Alto was a Spherite who could traverse both the Sphere and Ground, wielding the gloves of the Watchman Series. At some point, he encountered a teen while wandering a No Man’s Land and helped him, implicitly saving him from a giant Trash Beast. After hearing of the boy's past of fleeing from an orphanage that served as a front for child trafficking, Alto gave him his current name, Enjin, and brought him to town to get his wounds treated by a doctor. He also gave Enjin his umbrella, which would later become his Vital Instrument, Umbreaker.
A few years later, Alto would meet Enjin again while the teen was working at a lighthouse. He appeared severely weakened and extremely haggard, scared to see Enjin again, and asked why the teen was looking for him and if he desired another connection. Alto told Enjin that he was "reaching his limit" and that if he stayed any longer on the Ground, he would "break down and disappear" and risk Rudo's safety. He entrusted the Watchman Wristwatch to Enjin and hide it. He warned him to never use it, or else there will be a terrible price to pay.
At some point, Alto mutilated Rudo's arms for unknown reasons, leaving severe scars, and later abandoned him. At some point, Alto allegedly killed multiple people and was thrown into the Pit for his crime. His fate afterwards is unknown.
As he wielded the Watchman Series gloves, it is assumed that Alto could create Vital Instruments at will. He was proficient in riding Ground Horses and could traverse the Sphere and Ground.
