Tsumugu Kihara's grandfather, Isamu Kihara, is a fisherman who makes his living from the bounty of the sea and hails from a seaside village. Through a fateful encounter, after the Ofunehiki ceremony, he warmly welcomed Chisaki Hiradaira into his home when she could not return to Shioshishio. His kindness and humanity leave a lasting impression, much like a character from an anime. However, he collapsed at home while mending his nets, and is now recuperating in a public hospital. His story teaches the importance of family bonds and connections with others. Imagining him, five years later, having regained his health and enjoying the ocean scenery together with Chisaki, brings a sense of warmth. His presence is truly a touching episode, just like those in A Lull in the Sea.
