Danny (ダニー, Danī) is a tertiary ally featured in the first part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Phantom Blood.
He is Jonathan Joestar's dog and childhood best friend. Danny's death at the hands of Dio Brando serves as one of the primary catalysts in the lifelong rivalry between Jonathan and Dio.
Danny resembles a large and lean Whippet or German Shorthaired Pointer with cropped ears and a stocky build. He is white with several black spots.
Danny is a friendly, active, and intelligent dog. He and Jonathan share an inseparable bond, frequently playing and training together.
However, this was not always the case. When the Joestar family first adopted him, Danny was timid and fearful, even biting young Jonathan when he tried to pet him. This apprehension towards strangers lessened over time, given the way he enthusiastically ran to greet Dio Brando upon his arrival at the mansion.
While Danny is closest to Jonathan, others have remarked on his positive qualities. George Joestar I says that Danny is a special dog because he understands the value of a human life, Erina Pendleton is impressed that he is clever enough to separate the skins and seeds when eating grapes, and even Dio, who despises dogs, comments on how well-trained he is.
On one occasion, Danny heroically swims out to Jonathan while he is drowning, dragging him back to the land by his collar.
He is shown to be able to separate the skin and seeds from grapes.
George mentions that Danny is well behaved, and is smart enough to open doors and put out small fires with his body.
George Joestar I bought Danny when he was a puppy when Jonathan was five years old. Danny was very afraid of unfamiliar places and strange people causing him to bite Jonathan when the young boy first approached him. For a while, Jonathan also antagonized Danny by throwing stones at him. One day, while swimming in a river, Jonathan started drowning and was saved by Danny, which made them the best of friends.
