Sludge Jellyfish is a disaster-level Tiger monster from the One-Punch Man universe, appearing only in the Murata manga version and serving as a member of the Monster Association.
He is a tenacious, sludge-like creature whose body is composed of viscous liquid flesh, making him extremely difficult to kill by conventional means.
Sludge Jellyfish belongs to the Monster Association and usually acts as a subordinate operative rather than a top commander.
Despite being classified as disaster level Tiger, he displays durability and survivability that far exceed what is typical for that threat class.
His body is formed from a sticky, gelatinous mass that can disperse and reform after physical attacks.
Because of this, many direct blows that would obliterate other monsters barely inconvenience him.
Physiology and Durability
Sludge Jellyfish has a fully liquid, viscous body made of sludge-like flesh.
Blunt force and cutting attacks only cause his body to scatter temporarily, after which he quickly recombines with no lasting damage.
Poison gas has no effect on him, adding to his resilience against conventional weaponry.
For a disaster-level Tiger monster, this combination of resistance and regeneration makes him extraordinarily persistent and hard to put down.
Weaknesses
While physical attacks are largely useless, non-physical or environmental attacks can harm him.
Fire and other methods that can fundamentally alter or consume his substance are effective ways to defeat him.
His overconfidence in his immunity to slashing attacks leads to his downfall.
He underestimates technological and chemical countermeasures, such as flammable liquids and dehydration.
Special Techniques
Hedoro Press
His signature move, often translated as "Sludge Press", involves using his amorphous, heavy body to crush opponents under his own mass.
By dropping or compressing his sludge-like form, he can engulf and smother targets while exerting considerable pressure.
Association with Phoenix Man
Sludge Jellyfish often operates alongside Phoenix Man.
The two cooperate on missions for the Monster Association, combining Phoenix Man’s intelligence and leadership with Sludge Jellyfish’s durability.
At one point, they attempt to kidnap Zenko, the younger sister of Bang.
During this operation, Sludge Jellyfish is confronted by Garou, who defeats him and forces his retreat.
Targeting Garou and Tareo
After his initial defeat, Sludge Jellyfish bears a grudge and continues to watch for chances to harass Garou.
He eventually spots an opportunity when Garou helps a young boy named Tareo escape from monsters such as Kirisaking and his allies.
Sludge Jellyfish captures Tareo while Garou is occupied.
This capture creates an opening, allowing Kirisaking and the other monsters to launch a coordinated assault on Garou, leaving Garou gravely wounded and near death.
Battle Against Child Emperor
Later, Sludge Jellyfish confronts Child Emperor, who has infiltrated the Monster Association base to rescue Waganma.
Confident that slashing attacks cannot harm him, Sludge Jellyfish lets his guard down and underestimates Child Emperor’s ingenuity.
Child Emperor injects fuel oil into Sludge Jellyfish’s body and ignites it.
This causes Sludge Jellyfish to be engulfed in flames, and it is initially believed that he is burned to death.
Reappearance and Final Defeat
Despite appearing to have perished in the fire, Sludge Jellyfish survives.
He reappears in front of Child Emperor, furious and intent on interfering with the hero’s mission once more.
However, Evil Natural Water takes notice of the oil content now mixed into Sludge Jellyfish’s body.
It proceeds to absorb all the water from his body, drying him out completely and effectively killing him.
This dehydration marks Sludge Jellyfish’s final defeat, as his liquid-based physiology cannot function without sufficient internal moisture.
He dies not by brute force, but by losing the very substance that defines his existence.
