Character Setting

Edit

Maekawa was once a top professional mahjong player, holding five out of seven major titles in the official world. His skills and warm personality made him a beloved figure, admired by fans of all ages who called him "Sensei." Maekawa was deeply passionate about mahjong, wanting everyone to see it as an amazing game just like chess or shogi. However, he struggled with the bad attitude and cheating of Iwao Otsuji, which caused him to secretly hold a deep grudge. After a dramatic final match in the 27th Ryuuou Tournament and facing heartbreak and temptation, Maekawa decided to retire. Later, he returned to settle his past, only to meet a tragic end during the deadly "Russian Roulette Mahjong" event, dying after a shocking loss.

Maekawa is friendly, driven, and inspiring to those around him.

He has great respect for mahjong and always wanted it to gain more respect as a competitive game.

Despite his gentle side, Maekawa has a strong sense of justice and is deeply hurt by unfair play.

Maekawa’s career was filled with success, as he once controlled five out of seven top titles.

He worked hard to show the world how exciting and challenging mahjong could be.

Maekawa is extremely skilled at mahjong, known for building strong hands and playing patiently.

He could avoid even the fastest, most aggressive moves from other top players.

Maekawa was supported by his friend Kei, who stopped him from making a huge mistake.

He admired and respected other players, but his relationship with Iwao Otsuji was tense because of Otsuji's cheating.

Champion of the Mahjong World

Maekawa was at the top of the mahjong world, admired for both skill and kindness.

He wanted to share his love for mahjong with as many people as possible.

Trouble with Otsuji

Maekawa grew frustrated and angry at Otsuji’s cheating during serious matches.

This unfairness made Maekawa feel betrayed by the game he loved.

The 27th Ryuuou Tournament

During the finals of the 27th Ryuuou Tournament, Maekawa showed his calm and skills.

He dodged Otsuji’s fast attacks and patiently built up his hand.

Even Ai’s special "eyes" could not match Maekawa’s strength that day.

But Otsuji’s cheating was so bad that Maekawa nearly tried to cheat himself, pushed by anger and pain.

Right before he could do it, Kei stopped him, and in his heart, Maekawa knew it was time to retire.

The End in "Massacre Arc"

Maekawa came out of retirement for one last game, wanting to overcome his regrets.

He was invited as a special guest to Noriyuki Takatsu’s deadly “Russian Roulette Mahjong” tournament.

Maekawa played in the first round, but in the final moments, Kei made a surprise move and Maekawa lost.

He then took part in the real Russian Roulette right after—and sadly, Maekawa lost his life there.

Maekawa always tried to show others how amazing mahjong could be.

His nickname was “Sensei” because so many people respected and admired him.
