Erika Shinohara is a high school student who has never experienced serious love and has no real dating history.

In fact, she is explicitly described as having absolutely no romantic experience and still being a virgin at the start of the story.

To avoid feeling left out in her group of friends, she keeps telling exaggerated and completely made‑up stories about a fictional boyfriend.

When her lies are on the verge of being exposed, she panics and secretly snaps a photo of Kyōya Sata, a boy she spots in town, and claims he is her real boyfriend.

By coincidence, Kyōya turns out to attend the same high school as Erika.
