Lord Uroko

Lord Uroko has the appearance of a young man, but his age is unknown.

Scales grow on different parts of his body.

He usually wears simple clothing and is often seen relaxing on a small tatami mat in the shrine.

Lord Uroko acts like a powerful messenger of the gods, but he is actually rather lazy.

He lies on his mat, drinking sake and reading newspapers.

Though he speaks in an old-fashioned and serious way, he is very down-to-earth and sometimes even cheeky.

Chisaki Hiradaira describes him as "a stubborn trickster, and also pervy."

He can be playful and enjoys causing mischief, like putting curses on people.

Lord Uroko is the guardian spirit who watches over Shioshishio.

He lives in the shrine of Naminami Shrine, where Tomoru Sakishima, Hikari’s father, serves as the chief priest.

Lord Uroko is actually a scale that fell from the Sea God.

He is responsible for protecting the sea people and gives them the Sacred Fire, which is a part of the Sea God’s consciousness.

He performs key rituals, such as reciting prayers at funerals, lighting the Sacred Fire during ceremonies, and helping with important spiritual events.

Lord Uroko has many special powers as a messenger of the gods.

• Curses:

He usually puts curses on humans by causing fish heads to grow from their bodies.

Victims include Manaka Mukaido (fish on her knee) and Tsumugu Kihara (fish on his forearm).

The cursed fish can make noises and even eat food if offered.

After some time, the fish leave the body, sometimes talking to the person as they go.

He also hints he can cast many other types of curses, such as making someone forget the one they love.

• Sensing the Sea:

He can sense what is happening in the sea without needing to go there himself.

• Remote Viewing:

He can show distant scenes from the sea village by projecting them onto the shrine’s sacred mirror.

Others can also see these images.

• Remote Communication:

He can speak with people who are far away, though it is unclear if this works outside of the sea village.

• Creating Giant Whirlpools:

He can throw the Sacred Fire to create a huge glowing whirlpool with strong currents.

He can trap people inside it.

• Freezing Water:

After creating a whirlpool, he can freeze it by sending glowing orbs into it, making it look like icy trees.

• Lighting and Extinguishing the Sacred Fire:

He can light the Sacred Fire with a touch and light many lamps at once.

• Making People Faint:

He made people in the sea village lose consciousness, though it is not clear if he can do this anytime.

• Creating Illusions:

He created an illusion of the once-crowded Namiji Middle School, making it seem full of students even though it was empty.

• Teleportation:

He can suddenly appear in different places in the sea without making a sound.

• Superhuman Physical Ability:

On land, he displayed amazing jumping ability, easily leaping up and down from the roof of a small shrine several meters high.

Lord Uroko once loved The Princess, but because he is just a scale, he could never interact with her.

He watches over Hikari Sakishima, Manaka Mukaido, and their friends, sometimes helping or testing them with his powers.

The Unreachable Princess

Long ago, Lord Uroko fell in love with The Princess.

However, because he was only a scale that broke off from the Sea God, he could not touch her or even speak to her.

This unfulfilled love is a source of sadness for him.

The Sea God’s Pain and the Curse of Love

Lord Uroko’s understanding of love is shaped by a harsh lesson: “If you love someone, someone else will cry.”

This comes from tragic events involving the Sea God and The Princess.

Because of this, Lord Uroko knows that stealing someone’s feelings of love can lead to heartbreak for others.

Realization and Redemption

Through the actions and feelings of Hikari Sakishima and Manaka Mukaido, Lord Uroko realizes an important truth.

The Princess did not forget her lover on land; instead, deep in her heart, she started to truly love the Sea God.

Because of this misunderstanding, heartbreak and mistakes happened.

Lord Uroko understands it was wrong to take away someone’s feelings of love.

He finally confesses his honest feelings to The Princess across time.

Guardian of Rituals

Lord Uroko plays a big role in guarding the sea village and its rituals.

He shares the Sacred Fire with the sea people, helps with funerals, lights fire for sacred ceremonies, and supports both the villagers and the main characters through important times.

Lord Uroko spends most of his time lying on a small mat in the shrine.

Even though he is a divine being, he can act very human and lazy.
