Mario Zeppeli (マリオ ・ ツェペリ, Mario Tseperi) is a posthumous tertiary ally featured in the second part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Battle Tendency. He only appears in a flashback.
He is the son of Will Anthonio Zeppeli and father of Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli, who cooperates with Lisa Lisa in the fight against the Pillar Men.
Mario Zeppeli is a middle-aged man with short hair and a mustache. A younger Mario briefly appears in the Zeppeli family tree earlier in the story and flashbacks.
Mario Zeppeli is characterized as hard-working, trustworthy, and a wholesome family man. Although he loved his family, Mario had to abandon them in order to investigate the Pillar Men. He was concerned that his son would follow in his and his father's footsteps if he discovered the truth.
Mario is a selfless person, sacrificing himself to save a young man from one of the Pillar Men's trap without knowing it was his own son.
Ripple
Though he is not shown using it, Mario had spent his life training his Ripple, following in the footsteps of his father.
Mario was born to Will Anthonio Zeppeli, who left him and his mother early in his life to continue his search for the Stone Mask. He learned of his father's fate while he was still young, and he followed in his footsteps by training his Ripple and researching the Stone Masks.
Mario later lived in Naples with his wife and five children. He was considered the best carpenter in the city, and his eldest child Caesar idolized him. At some point, his wife died.
Mario eventually discovered the Pillar Men's hibernation site beneath the Colosseum, long before Germany would discover them. In 1928, he suddenly left his children behind without telling them anything about his investigation. He left behind savings for his children to live off of, not knowing that a relative would steal it all without Caesar noticing. His friends and neighbors would take care of his children in his absence, though Caesar would be sent to an orphanage and grow to hate his father.
Mario began travelling the world in order to discover a way to destroy the creatures that were in the wall. At one point, he became colleagues with Lisa Lisa.
In 1935, Mario would head to the site where the Pillar Men were discovered, unknowingly trailed by his bloodthirsty son. When Caesar stopped to pick a jewel from the wall, Mario saved him by pushing him out of the way of Kars's trap and taking the hit instead. As he was absorbed into the wall, he did not recognize the young man he saved as his own son, either due to said absorption or his son being older. Before he was absorbed completely, he told his son to report his death to his colleague, Lisa Lisa, as she was the only one capable of rivaling the creatures. This selfless act earned him Caesar's admiration postmortem, and caused him to seek revenge against the Pillar Men.
