Hatori is a high-ranking Tengu who navigates complex family drama and fierce rivalries between two prominent inns.
As a Tengu, Hatori is a key figure in the spirit world's hospitality industry. He was once the head clerk at the renowned Tenjin-ya, where he also served as Akatsuki's former supervisor.
He has since moved to the rival inn, Orio-ya, initially taking the position of head clerk. He was later promoted to acting master, showcasing his considerable skill and experience.
Hatori is the third son of the powerful Tengu, Matsuba. Their relationship was deeply strained for a long time.
He harbored a strong resentment for his father, particularly detesting Matsuba's harsh treatment of Sasara.
The Disownment
Unable to endure the situation any longer, Hatori's frustration led him to a desperate act. He sold the Tengu clan's secret sake, a treasure that was strictly forbidden from being shared with outsiders.
This act of defiance enraged Matsuba, who, feeling utterly betrayed, immediately disowned him.
The Reconciliation
The rift between father and son was eventually mended by Aoi Tsubaki's cooking. She skillfully prepared two different kinds of Gameni that helped them finally understand each other.
This shared meal led to their emotional reconciliation, and as a direct result, Matsuba officially revoked Hatori's disownment.
Beyond his work and family ties, Hatori enjoys a more relaxed and strategic friendship. He is a frequent Go-playing companion of the great Odanna himself.
