Issei Tomine is a young, charismatic wine critic in The Drops of God, known as Shizuku Kanzaki’s proud rival and fellow heir to Yutaka Kanzaki’s will.
Tomine enters the inheritance dispute by becoming Yutaka Kanzaki’s adopted son, hoping to obtain the famed wine collection.
As a result, he receives the will alongside Shizuku Kanzaki and stands as his direct competitor.
He is intensely proud and often comes across as arrogant.
At the same time, he is a relentless worker who constantly sharpens his tasting ability.
Tomine lives entirely for wine.
He pushes himself to extremes in order to deepen what he calls his thirst for wine.
To intensify that passion, he even travels to the Taklamakan Desert.
To better understand the wording of the will, he goes so far as to rent an entire amusement park.
For all his pride, he is completely honest with wine.
He never lies about what he tastes and will not distort his judgment, even when doing so could benefit Shizuku Kanzaki.
During tastings, Tomine has a striking habit of slipping into a trance-like state.
In those moments, he repeatedly groans, “Oh, ohhh,” as he immerses himself in the wine.
This unusual behavior reflects how deeply and physically he experiences tasting.
Wine for him is not a hobby, but the center of his existence.
Tomine is in fact the illegitimate child of Honoka and Yutaka Kanzaki.
That makes him the half-brother of Shizuku Kanzaki.
This truth is known only to a very small number of people.
Neither Shizuku Kanzaki nor Sarah knows about it.
After the selection of The Drops of God, Tomine dies of pancreatic cancer.
Following his death, his daughter Seiya is born.
