Character Setting

Edit

Alice Kurobane is a Shadowcraft leader in Shadowverse, and a supporting protagonist in the 2020 Shadowverse anime, and a supporting character in Shadowverse: Champion's Battle and Shadowverse Flame.

Alice Kurobane is a happy idol character that plays a Shadowcraft deck, but can't show off the cards that she loves in the deck and only show of the cute cards as her image of a idol. She introduces herself, incognito, to Mimori at the Shadowverse Stadium, looking to enjoy a good battle, which she cannot do by being herself due to having to maintain her idol act by entertaining her fans and never playing seriously. Hiro notices this in his battle with her in the National Tournament, telling her that he hopes to actually play with her in the future. At the Shadow Grand Prix, Alice teams up with Mimori against the Joubert Sisters and then the two have a battle where they express their opposite feelings about being "ordinary" or "special", since Alice prefers to be a normal girl instead of an idol. By using her beloved card, Skeleton Raider, that she forced herself to avoid use, Alice wins the battle and gets in Mimori her first real friend. After reaching the end of the Shadow Grand Prix, Alice along with the other protagonists become the chosen ones to save the world from the Tree of Woe. To this end, Leon sends them to the ruins of the Mythical Cards. On the way, Alice have an encounter with Kai where both gives each other an advice about their personal conflicts. In the ruin, Alice confronts a Shade-possessed Vivian Joubert, managing to win by remembering Kai's words about how her idol persona and Shadowverse persona are both part of who she is. After fighting various Shades around the city, all seven are sucked into the Tree of Woe. Alice is sent to a dream world where she lives as a normal girl. However, Asagi guides her out of her dream to the world of her Legendary Card, where she encounters Luna inside of her manor and the two face off in a Shadowverse battle. Upon winning and with the decision to talk with her mother to have more freedom, Alice return to the real world along her friends. She finally joins the others to fight the Shades and later supports Hiro in his final battle with Leon. Three years later, during Shadowverse Flame, Alice mantained her idol career, becoming even more popular. While waiting for Mimori in the Shadowverse Stadium, commences a battle with Light Tenryu, in which, by the end of the match, gave him some advice to get stronger. Later, while in the middle of a reconciliation outing with Mimori, Alice encounters the Arc Ruler's invasion of Nekome. Although Alice is initially upset with Mimori's attitude, the two finally decide to go and reclaim the Mythical Cards sealed at Shadowverse College. Along the way, they both fight the Shade monsters with the Nexa System, receiving help from the Joubert Sisters. Following the loss of the Mythical Cards and the Tree of Woe revived by Wolfram Zerga, Mimori and Alice reunite with their old friends and put their faith in Light Tenryu. Following the defeat of Wolfram Zerga and the disappearance of the Tree of Woe, Mimori rejects Alice's proposal to become her idol partner, preferring to study to one day become her manager and be by her side.

Alice is a famous pop idol, but she feels trapped by not being able to show herself as she really is. She befriends the protagonist, keeping her identity a secret. The two hang out throughout Nekome City and even shows her what Tensei Academy is like, though this lands her in trouble with her manager. After accidentally revealing herself as an idol in front of the protagonist and his manager, Alice has a conversation with him where he accepts her for who she is and Alice gives him a ticket to her concert. During the concert, Alice expresses her love of horror to the audience, and though this initially discourages them, the protagonist encourages her and everyone continues to cheer her on during her performance. After this, Alice thanks the protagonist for his friendship and support.

Alice is initially presented as a bubbly and energetic idol, enjoying the attention she receives. However, deep down she resents the idol life for taking away her childhood and freedom, revealing a more complex side beneath her cheerful facade. Alice expresses a desire to live freely and dislikes being tied down. Even so, he tends to keep a happy and childlish posture around others, although she is capable of being serious, specially when it comes to Shadowverse.

She has a fascination with the macabre and enjoys cards that others might find frightening or ugly. Nonetheless, she is forced to hide this side of her since it doesn't match with her idol image.

Alice uses a Shadowcraft Deck. Her deck includes several "cute" cards, such as Dog of the Dead and Lyrian, Celestial Archer, which the adults forced her to use. Her true cards focus on Necromancy and Last Words effects, mainly to fill the board with followers and assault the opponent, thus maintaining a good rhythm in battle by manipulating her hand and graveyard. Her favorite, Skeleton Raider, has a powerful ability to destroy any enemy follower and deal damage every time an enemy follower is destroyed.
