Character Setting

Edit

Elrasla Ragnarok is a master of the mysterious fighting style called Phantasmagoric Peerless Style. She is known for her lively personality and great strength. Once very ill and old, she was cured by Naofumi Iwatani’s medicine, which gave her energy like her younger days. She works as a battle advisor for Queen Mirellia’s kingdom in "The Rising of the Shield Hero," helping and training others, especially Naofumi and his allies. Despite often being called "Old Lady" or even just "Granny," Elrasla never hesitates to fight or teach. Her deep experience and sharp instincts make her an important mentor and tough warrior. She even becomes a rival to another martial arts master in another world. Elrasla’s story has some differences depending on the version, but in all of them, she is an inspiring, unforgettable mentor figure.

Elrasla Ragnarok appears as an elderly woman. At first, she looks sick and fragile from her illness and old age. After taking Naofumi Iwatani’s medicine, she regains her full energy and looks much healthier and stronger, almost like she returned to her prime.

Elrasla is lively, energetic, and does not let her age slow her down. She’s known for her bold attitude and sometimes calls people out directly. She often refers to herself and is called "Old Lady" or "Granny." Elrasla can be blunt, but she truly cares for those she teaches, showing a sharp eye for talent and a desire to see her students grow. She likes to make jokes and is not shy about her strength.

Elrasla Ragnarok is the successor of the Phantasmagoric Peerless Style, a mysterious martial art. Once very old and sick, she is saved by Naofumi Iwatani, who uses his shield’s power to make a medicine her son bought even stronger. This not only heals her but also restores her strength to its height.

Because of her strength and skill, Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc invites Elrasla to serve as a battle advisor for the heroes fighting against the Waves. She agrees, partly to repay Naofumi for saving her life and partly to find a worthy successor.

Elrasla is a master of the Phantasmagoric Peerless Style. She has amazing martial arts skills and can even break through Naofumi’s strong shield with just a wooden stick, shocking those around her.

She teaches others how to use "Qi," a special kind of energy, and gives advice on training methods. Elrasla can fight fiercely in battle, becoming a force against the monsters from the Waves.

  • Naofumi Iwatani: Saved her life and became someone she respects deeply, calling him a "saint."
  • Raphtalia, Rishia Ivyred, Fohl: Her students. She sees the special talents in each, especially noting Rishia as a "once-in-a-hundred-years" genius.
  • Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc: The queen who invites Elrasla to become the battle advisor for the kingdom’s heroes.
  • Her Son: Also a student who becomes important when Elrasla chooses to keep training him instead of joining Naofumi for a trip to another world.
  • Granny Pearl (Web Version Rival): In the web novel, she becomes rivals with another martial arts master, creating a friendly challenge.

How Elrasla is Saved

Elrasla, very sick and lying in bed, is found by Naofumi Iwatani by chance. Naofumi uses a special medicine, making it even stronger with his shield’s power. Elrasla gets better, not just healing but gaining back her energy and strength. She is so thankful that she calls Naofumi her "saint."

Becoming a Battle Advisor

With her health and power restored, Elrasla stands out during the third Wave, showing amazing fighting skills. Naofumi is shocked by her strength and jokes that he might have made her "too strong." Elrasla decides to become a battle advisor for Naofumi’s village to return his kindness and look for someone to inherit her style.

Training the Heroes

Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc appoints Elrasla to teach the Four Legendary Heroes. She tries to instruct all of them in her fighting style, but only Naofumi works hard enough to stay. The others give up because the training is too tough.

She then trains Raphtalia, Rishia Ivyred, and Fohl. She is amazed by Rishia’s natural talent and helps each student to grow.

Fighting in the Waves and Battles

When the third Wave attacks, Elrasla fights alongside Naofumi, showing the true strength of her style. She helps keep everyone safe.

Later, she also becomes involved in the Spirit Tortoise battle, supporting Naofumi and his team.

Facing Different Worlds

Naofumi prepares to travel to another world. Elrasla stays behind at first to continue training her son. But her son tells her to go help when the Waves link across worlds, so she joins Naofumi’s side later. In this other world, she challenges the leader of the "Jizai Gyokuryu Style," the martial arts school from that world, and they become rivals. Elrasla chooses to remain in this new world to help Kizuna Kazayama and the others by training them.

Different Fates in Web and Book Versions

In the web novel, Elrasla dies making a last stand during the battle with Takt. In the light novel, Raphtalia takes this role, so Elrasla survives and continues to play a part in the story.

Her name is finally revealed outside the main story in the web novel’s epilogue and the official setting book. In the anime, she is credited as "Granny" at first, but later, her full name, Elrasla Ragnarok, is shown and she introduces herself as such to Ost Hourai.

  • Elrasla is only called "Granny" most of the time in the main story, with her real name appearing in extra material and later anime credits.
  • She can spot true talent in people with just a glance.
  • She is so energetic after being healed that Naofumi worries she might burn out from using too much power.

  • "Just who did I give that medicine to? After this fight, is Granny going to just drop dead like her batteries ran out...?" – Naofumi, worried about Elrasla’s new energy.
  • "You’re a once-in-a-hundred-years genius." – Elrasla about Rishia Ivyred.

Elrasla Ragnarok is a mentor, a lively fighter, and a key figure in helping others grow stronger. Her strength, wisdom, and humor leave a big impact in "The Rising of the Shield Hero."
