Character Setting

Edit

Lauda Neill is a cool-headed but passionate student from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. He is the younger half-brother of Guel Jeturk and takes on many burdens in the story, including becoming the dorm leader and the CEO of Jeturk Company. Lauda struggles with feelings of resentment, loyalty, and internal conflict, especially after the loss of his father, family crisis, and tragedies involving his friends. His most memorable moments come from his dramatic confrontations and his growth from an angry rival to someone capable of understanding and forgiveness.

Lauda Neill is a teenage boy with neat features and a somewhat sharp, nervous look. His hair color takes after his biological mother. He has a habit of brushing his left bangs with his right hand, which makes him seem a bit anxious or tense. After being injured, he is seen with a bandage on his head and, three years later, is shown with both legs replaced by GUND medical technology.

Lauda is usually calm and logical, standing in contrast to his hot-blooded brother Guel Jeturk. However, underneath his calmness, he has strong emotions and can be very passionate, especially about his family. Lauda respects his brother profoundly and always tries to put the family and their dorm first. Even when he feels betrayed or lost, his actions come from a place of pride and care for his loved ones. He can be abrasive and harsh toward outsiders, such as Suletta Mercury, whom he blames for his brother's troubles, but is capable of expressing gratitude when his friends' lives are saved.

Lauda Neill is in his third year in the pilot department at Asticassia School of Technology, student number KP013. He is the second son of Vim Jeturk, but is Guel's brother from a different mother. Due to this, he carries his mother's surname, Neill, instead of Jeturk. Lauda was left with the Jeturk family after his biological mother, who was Vim's mistress, left soon after his birth. Guel embraced Lauda as family despite their different mothers, and this acceptance meant a lot to Lauda. He takes great pride in defending "the Jeturk family's place" as his home.

Lauda is a skilled mobile suit pilot, ranking high within the school. At episode 8, he had the 7th best odds in individual combat, later rising to 4th. This makes him one of the most capable fighters among the students, even if he isn't the absolute best. He also develops leadership skills during the series, becoming respected by his dorm mates when he serves as dorm leader and then as CEO.

Guel Jeturk

Lauda looks up to Guel and trusts him as a brother. He expresses worry for Guel's safety and feels hurt when secrets are kept from him. Their bond is strong, and they reconcile after dramatic conflicts.

Vim Jeturk

Lauda follows his father's orders but is also caught between his father's commands and his loyalty to his brother, which creates tension for him.

Petra Itta

Petra, a close friend, has shown a romantic interest in Lauda. After she is injured and falls into a coma, Lauda's mental state suffers deeply. Three years later, he is shown caring for her during her recovery.

Felsi Rollo

Felsi is a fellow dorm member and often by Lauda's side. She protects Lauda when he is in danger and is part of his support network.

Suletta Mercury and Miorine Rembran

Lauda has a poor opinion of Suletta, largely blaming her for Guel's downfall and the problems that follow. He later comes to thank her for saving his life. After many events, he develops a strong hatred for Miorine Rembran, blaming her for much of the tragedy, even attempting to kill her in a fit of rage.

  • "Even if you didn't do that, my brother would still win!"
  • "Fall! You Mercury girl!"
  • "Since you came, everything started going wrong! Everything! Mercury girl!!"
  • "I haven't forgiven any of you yet... but if you don't come back with my brother, I'll never forgive you!"
  • "Then try to stop me, even if you have to kill me... just like with Dad!"

Troubled Beginnings

Lauda starts as vice-dorm leader under Guel. When Guel is forced to leave the dorm, Lauda becomes the new leader. He tries to protect his brother's reputation, following his father's difficult orders even when he disagrees.

Family Crisis

After their father Vim Jeturk dies, Lauda is made CEO of the Jeturk company. He struggles with pressure from all sides: grief for his father, Guel's disappearance, and judgments from company rivals.

Rivalry with Suletta Mercury

Lauda is hostile and shows open contempt for Suletta, especially after she defeats Guel, causing Lauda's resentment to grow. In a group battle, he shouts at her to fall, showing his deep anger and frustration.

The Rumble Ring Accident

During his last battles before leaving Asticassia, Lauda plans revenge against Suletta. But Sophie Pulone interrupts, injuring Lauda badly and sending him to the hospital. Despite his wounds, he soon returns to work.

Reunion with Guel Jeturk

When Guel unexpectedly comes back, Lauda's bottled-up feelings cause him to faint from relief. Later, Guel resumes the CEO role, and Lauda returns as a student, showing their close brotherly bond.

Downward Spiral

After learning his brother killed their father and that Petra is in critical condition, Lauda loses his emotional balance. With nowhere else to direct his anger, he blames Miorine Rembran for the tragedies and attacks her during the Quiet Zero operation.

Climax and Forgiveness

Lauda, in the dangerous Schvarzette, fights Guel in a desperate and emotional duel. He reveals he feels left out and untrusted, wishing to share his brother's burdens. With Guel's courage and care, Lauda finally realizes his mistake and breaks down in tears, asking for forgiveness.

Three Years Later

Lauda is seen with Petra, helping her recover from her injuries using new medical technology. He also shares a lighter moment with Guel, hinting at a healthier family relationship.

  • His name "Lauda" is Italian and means "a song to praise God."
  • The phrase "Mercury girl!" which he shouts, quickly became a meme and trended on Japanese social media.
  • Fans sometimes joke and call Suletta a "clumsy girl" based on Lauda's insult.

Lauda’s story centers on his inner struggle, loyalty to family, intense rivalries, and learning grief and forgiveness. His journey shows how even in a world of war and machines, personal feelings and relationships matter the most.
