Chonbo is a mahjong spirit who has lived for many years at the mahjong parlor once managed by Nashiko Jippensha's father. Originally, it had no name, but was named "Chonbo" by Izumi Tokutomi on her own initiative (Chonbo is aware of the meaning and is somewhat displeased by it). Haneru Emi calls it "an unlucky name." Chonbo can communicate with Nashiko Jippensha, but not with anyone else, so those around it think it is just a sparrow, and it acts accordingly. Until Riche Hayashi joined the group, there were only three players, so Chonbo itself would join as the fourth member for mahjong games.
Overview
A mahjong spirit that appeared suddenly before this. It has the appearance of a chick with tail feathers modeled after the peacock depicted on the one-bamboo tile, making it a mascot-like character. Incidentally, it actually emerged from a one-bamboo tile.
The name was given by Izumi Tokutomi, but due to its origin, it has been pointed out as being unlucky.
Being a mahjong spirit, its skills are quite refined, and it used to play mahjong together with Nashiko Jippensha and the others until Riche Hayashi joined.
Chonbo possesses high intelligence and can have conversations with Nashiko Jippensha, though only with her. Perhaps because of this, it is generally allowed to roam freely and act as it pleases.
However, Nashiko Jippensha tends to treat it rather roughly; there have been instances where she almost used it as food or left it alone in the mahjong parlor during training camps.
