Rickert

Rickert is a boyish, small-framed young man with a notably innocent appearance.

His childlike features often cause others to underestimate him, but his slender build belies his considerable skills.

Rickert is earnest, hardworking, and fiercely loyal to his friends.

He is quick to admire others for their abilities and leadership, as seen in his deep respect for both Griffith and, later, Guts.

Rickert’s experiences with loss have made him both resilient and somewhat wary, as evidenced by his fear toward elves after witnessing magical phenomena.

Rickert excels as a crossbowman, matching Judo in dexterity and versatility.

He later becomes an accomplished blacksmith, responsible for creating the cannon-arm and explosive ammunition for Guts.

His skill and ingenuity prove invaluable, allowing him to survive and assist his companions in various critical moments.

Rickert reveres Griffith and initially longed to follow in his footsteps.

He forms a strong bond with Guts after his arrival and looks up to him as well.

As an apprentice, he lives and works with Godot, and his relationship with Erica is one of close companionship.

Rickert’s journey exposes him to new alliances, such as with Silat and the Bakiraka.

Member of the Band of the Hawk

Rickert joins the Band of the Hawk as a skilled crossbowman.

Although youthful and unassuming, he quickly distinguishes himself for his nimbleness and technical prowess.

He strictly follows Griffith, whom he idolizes, and readily welcomes Guts, holding him in similar esteem.

Surviving the Eclipse

When Griffith is imprisoned, Rickert suffers injuries and remains behind at the group’s camp.

As a result, he escapes the demonic onslaught during the Eclipse.

Though attacked by apostles, Rickert is saved by the Skull Knight and becomes the only member in the main force to live through the tragedy.

His chance sighting of a fairy-like Rosine leaves him with a lingering fear of elves.

Life with Godot

After the Band of the Hawk's annihilation, Rickert and Erica find refuge with the blacksmith Godot.

He becomes Godot’s apprentice, partly to compensate for the equipment Guts borrowed and to help care for Caska.

Through his two-year apprenticeship, Rickert hones his blacksmithing—an act that also serves as a way to honor his fallen comrades.

He creates the famed Hill of Swords, a field of gravemarkers for each lost member, as a somber tribute.

Rickert goes on to craft Guts's mechanical left arm equipped with a cannon, as well as powerful explosive ammunition.

Meeting Griffith Again

Following Godot’s death, Rickert inherits the forge, living with Erica.

He is overjoyed by Griffith’s sudden reappearance but is stunned by Guts’s revelation of the Band of the Hawk’s tragic end, which shakes him deeply.

Entering Falconia

With the world transformed by the Incarnation of Fantasia and monstrous creatures roaming freely, Rickert and Erica are forced to flee.

They join refugees and reach Falconia, awestruck by the city’s grandeur.

However, he is disturbed by the existence of demonic soldiers at Griffith's command.

When confronted again by a reborn Griffith, Rickert boldly slaps him and declares their parting, sparking the enmity of the devoted Lokks.

He narrowly survives an assassination attempt by Rakshas thanks to Silat and Tapasa.

Rickert later agrees to ally with Silat, seeking information about Griffith, and sets off with the hideout-dwelling Daiba toward the Bakiraka’s hidden village.

• Rickert is the only main member of the Band of the Hawk to survive the Eclipse due to his absence from the main party during the event.
• He has a lingering fear of elves after witnessing Rosine’s transformation.
