Zalaks have pointed or rounded ears with hair tufts, slim or bushy tails, keen senses, average short stature, and high fertility. They demonstrates different variations depending on geography; for instance, those from the Kjeragian mountain range spanning from Kazimierz to Kjerag have thick, fluffier tails and bushy ear tufts, whereas those from warmer regions in the south have thinner hair on their ears and tails.
Despite their short stature compared to other races, Zalaks' agility compensates for the disadvantage. Their large ears and sharp eyes enable them to possess exceptional hearing and reflexes, and through them, they are very sensitive to ambient vibrations and airflow changes. These qualities allow Zalaks to survive in harsh, barren environments. As a matter of fact, many Zalaks often work as communication Messengers or Catastrophe Messengers.
Thanks to their high fertility that enables them to give birth to large numbers of babies, a feat shared with the Cautuses' large family, Zalaks are a common race who can be found anywhere on Terra from Bolívar to Rim Billiton through their abundant population. In recent years, there is an increase of Zalaks immigrating to Columbia. One of the possible reasons is that they are motivated by prominent Zalak movie stars in the Columbian Wrankwood film industry such as Berne Gayley, Anthony Irving, and Kazimierzian actress Magda "Quickmouth" Molinsky who spotlighted the Zalak populace in a positive manner through their block-busting movies, notably the 1094 comedy Come On! Not Again starring Gayley as the protagonist Jack Scoutnut. As a matter of fact, the word "Zalak Syndrome," originally a derogatory term that stereotyped Zalaks as greedy, compulsive collectors, has gradually become a commendatory idiom that describes a person's planning ahead for themself and their families. The public promotion of the "Zalak Syndrome" also attracts many Zalaks to join the Columbian frontier pioneers who make their contribution through their accumulated wealth and enduring adaptations to the harsh environment.
Some Zalaks possess an innate phobia towards Felines. Despite having no particular animosity towards them, they will try their best to keep a distance from Felines, especially those who have taller stature. If spending too much time with them, they will demonstrate physical discomforts such as rigid muscles, muttering, and eyes turning red.
