Quentin Fermo is a male Cyber-Newtype from MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM: Twilight AXIS, known as the elder of the Fermo twins and the pilot of the Gundam AN-01 “Tristan.”
Gender: Male
Affiliation: Birnam
Role: Ace mobile suit pilot and practical combat commander
Voice Actor: Toshiki Masuda
Signature line: “Don’t let this end as just a test shot…!”
Quentin Fermo belongs to the armed group Birnam Forest, which attacks the survey team aboard the Mastema during its investigation of Axis.
Within Birnam, he serves as the ace of its mobile combat unit and effectively acts as its battlefield commander.
Although Birnam also has separate units for industrial espionage and similar operations, Quentin’s place is firmly on the front line.
He infiltrates Axis together with his younger twin brother, Walter Fermo, while piloting the Gundam AN-01 “Tristan.”
Quentin was originally the son of a wealthy family, with his father serving as a captain-class officer in the Earth Federation Forces.
His life collapsed when his father was killed in the nuclear attack on the naval review at Confeito carried out by the Delaz Fleet.
After that, Quentin and his twin brother Walter survived as street children.
The brothers possessed a certain natural “aptitude,” along with a twin-specific form of mutual perception or mental resonance.
They used this ability to survive in brutal conditions, but it was not enough to protect them forever.
Eventually, they were captured by the military police.
Under ordinary circumstances, they likely would have been sent to a detention facility.
Instead, because of their aptitude, they were taken to the Newtype Research Institute attached to the military’s Augusta Base.
There, Quentin and Walter became among the final test subjects of the institute.
During their time at Augusta, they underwent experiments and Cyber-Newtype enhancement procedures.
These included research into their twin-based resonance abilities, as well as physical reinforcement beyond their original potential.
In Universal Century 0088, after the collapse of the Titans, the institute’s inhumane activities were exposed.
Public condemnation forced the facility to close.
During the chaos of that shutdown, different test subjects chose different paths.
Some were freed because they had no aptitude, while others accepted their abilities and underwent further enhancement.
Quentin and Walter chose to escape amid the confusion.
After leaving the institute, the brothers survived by working as mercenaries in the underworld.
Over time, they built enough of a reputation to catch the eye of Scharnhorst Ronah, chairman of the Buch Concern.
That connection eventually led them to their current position within Birnam.
Quentin has the aggressive and sadistic edge often associated with Cyber-Newtypes.
Even so, he is not portrayed as wildly unstable.
He understands when to withdraw and is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of a combat commander.
This balance makes him more than just a dangerous pilot.
He is a battlefield leader who can enjoy the fight without completely losing sight of the mission.
Quentin also appears satisfied with his treatment in Birnam.
His loyalty to his employer, Scharnhorst Ronah, is by no means weak.
In the manga version, he continues to carry out his mission faithfully while also showing concern for Walter when the brothers are separated.
That glimpse of brotherly worry adds a surprisingly human touch to his otherwise ruthless image.
Quentin’s mobile suit differs depending on the version of the work.
