Chika was introduced as a new character in the High School Fleet smartphone game Fleet Battle in a Pinch!, which has since ended service.
She later appeared in the High School Fleet manga adaptation and in the theatrical film.
Her name had previously been listed only in the booklet included with Blu-ray Volume 4.
She is the captain of Amatsukaze, a Kagero-class ocean-going direct education ship.
Her promotional description states that she is highly competitive and always wants to be number one whenever she takes something on.
That description matches her behavior closely.
She often develops a strong rivalry toward others, including Akeno Misaki, even when they are supposed to be on the same team during class competitions.
At times, this intense competitiveness causes problems.
During one competition, it even led to her becoming unable to act, which held her team back.
Still, she is not simply stubborn for the sake of it.
When her vice-captain Yamabe Ayumi scolds her, Chika is able to accept it and apologize, showing a more honest and straightforward side.

At the same time, she is not invincible.
In a fleet battle exercise, while others such as Akeno and Moeka China refused to give up even in a hopeless situation, Chika was the first to lose heart and complain tearfully, showing a vulnerable side beneath her bravado.
In episode 10, it is revealed that the Amatsukaze class was affected by the RATt incident.
Because of that, it is believed that Chika also went berserk during the event.
Her name can also be faintly seen during the class assignment scene in episode 1.
Later, her name was formally confirmed in the booklet included with Blu-ray Volume 4.
In the mobile game, Chika initially appeared in both 3-star and 5-star versions.
Later, a 4-star version and an event-limited 5-star version were added.
Her standard 5-star version had the captain skill Maximum Ship Speed.
This skill temporarily increased movement speed.
Within the game story, her personality is emphasized even more strongly.
She looked down on Mashiro Munetani for being content with second place and declared that she had no intention of aiming for anything except the top.
Mashiro responded with disbelief, essentially asking whether Chika had ever considered doing her best in the role assigned to her.
That exchange highlights just how strongly Chika defines success in terms of being first.
An additional bit of trivia comes from manga artist Kanari Abe.
After writing Chika’s appearance chapter, Abe pulled the gacha and successfully obtained her character card.
After the RATt incident, Chika became especially competitive toward the increasingly famous Harekaze class.
She challenged them to a fighting game match.
During that contest, however, she became fascinated by Rin Shiretoko and her extreme dodge-focused play style.
She then got so absorbed in the game itself that she practically forgot about the competition.
In the drama CD included with the deluxe pamphlet, Chiba Sachiho mentions that Chika was running a goldfish scooping booth.
True to form, though, it was not an ordinary booth.
Instead of simply scooping goldfish for fun, she turned it into a duel against the stall owner.
The winner was whoever scooped the greater number of goldfish, and Chika got intensely worked up over the challenge.
One of Chika’s most memorable features is the gap between her confidence and her occasional fragility.
She wants attention, wants to win, and wants everyone to know she is the best, yet she can also be shaken when things go badly.
Her love of games, especially fighting games, gives her a distinct identity among the cast.
Even outside formal battles, she tends to turn ordinary activities into competitions, which makes her energetic, amusing, and hard to ignore.
