Gasou Sumire, Kanetsugu Gasō's young sister, has a bright and innocent personality and is very close to her brother, affectionately calling him "Kan-chan." However, she is frail and constantly moves in and out of the hospital. This situation makes it increasingly difficult for the already impoverished Gasō family to cover her medical expenses. Wishing desperately to help with Sumire's treatment, Kanetsugu decides to approach and deceive Aki Adagaki and Masamune Makabe.
After Kanetsugu's plan fails, they begin living together in an apartment, and they promise that once Sumire is discharged from the hospital, they will go to a public bath together.
