Character Setting

Edit

Yoimaru Azaki is a legendary exorcist and teacher at Miden Academy who once purified a disaster-class evil spirit at the age of eighteen, now serving as the homeroom teacher of Class 1F while focusing on training the next generation.

Yoimaru is a male exorcist known for his overwhelming natural talent with spiritual power.

Despite his reputation as a genius in his active years, he now sees himself as outdated in a world dominated by digital spiritual techniques.

He does not possess electric abilities and cannot directly use modern spiritual technology.

Even so, he is strong enough to stand his ground alone against top-tier Dead Accounts thanks to his abnormal base power.

He is voiced by voice actor Takuya Sato.

Yoimaru is bright, approachable, and deeply caring toward his students.

He makes an effort to be friendly rather than distant, which helps his class feel relaxed around him.

He has a visible scar over his left eyebrow, adding to his slightly rough, veteran look.

Despite that, he often behaves in a surprisingly childish way for a legendary exorcist.

His mental resilience is not as sturdy as his combat power, and he can be emotionally fragile at times.

He tends to get flustered easily, especially when things move in directions he did not anticipate.

One of his childish quirks is hiding in the academy’s hot springs and suddenly jumping out to scare people.

This prank-loving side contrasts sharply with his legend as a disaster-class exorcist.

During an infiltration of a large electronics store infested with Dead Accounts, he disguised himself for the mission.

In that disguise, he was hit on by numerous women, showing that his looks are solidly in the “handsome” category even if he himself is oblivious.

Although he is popular in appearance, he has absolutely no immunity to women and is easily thrown off by romantic or flirtatious situations.

He is also notably clumsy with anything involving electronics, which only adds to his endearing, old-school charm.

Yoimaru works as a teacher at Miden Academy, an institution that trains exorcists in an age where digital spiritual techniques are the norm.

He is currently devoting his time and energy to guiding younger exorcists rather than pursuing personal glory.

He serves as the homeroom teacher of Class 1F, the class to which the protagonist Soji Enishiro belongs.

In this role, he acts as both instructor and mentor, offering guidance in both spiritual battles and everyday school life.

Although he once held the title of a genius exorcist, he no longer sees himself as a front-line hero.

Instead, he believes that nurturing capable successors is the best contribution he can make in the modern era of exorcism.

Yoimaru is a master exorcist of the old, analog generation.

His power lies in pure spiritual energy rather than modern electric-based systems.

He does not possess electric ability and cannot interact directly with digital spiritual networks.

Because of this, he belongs to the category of “analog exorcists,” who must adapt their powers to a digitalized battlefield.

When fighting Dead Accounts—digital-type evil spirits—he uses a specialized fan-shaped spiritual power converter.

This device transforms his raw spiritual energy into digital output, allowing him to affect digital entities despite his analog nature.

For analog exorcists, converting spiritual power into digital form drastically weakens it.

In Yoimaru’s case, his power is reduced to less than ten percent of its original strength when converted.

Even so, his starting point is so absurdly high that he remains terrifyingly strong after conversion.

Kukuru Kasubata comments on him with the remark that “he was already beyond the norm, so even reduced he’s still beyond the norm.”

Despite the heavy degradation from analog-to-digital conversion, Yoimaru can still single-handedly bring down high-ranking Dead Accounts.

This means that his raw, unconverted spiritual power as an exorcist is on a level far above the majority of his peers.

His reputation as a “genius exorcist” comes from his exploits in his youth, particularly purifying a disaster-class evil spirit at only eighteen years old.

Those achievements made him a living legend in exorcist circles long before he ever became a teacher.

Because he fights using old methods in a highly modernized system, he half-jokingly calls himself a “past-his-time exorcist.”

However, this self-deprecation does not reflect his actual capability, which remains extraordinary even by current standards.

Yoimaru belongs firmly to the analog generation and is notoriously bad with electronic devices.

He struggles with modern gadgets, interfaces, and the digital systems that younger exorcists use with ease.

His lack of electric ability means he cannot directly wield the standard digital exorcist tools most students are trained with.

This forces him to rely on converters and external devices, making his combat style more cumbersome but also uniquely his own.

His digital illiteracy often becomes a running joke among his students and colleagues.

Nonetheless, his battle experience and sheer power earn him genuine respect, even from those who tease him.

He is very aware of how out-of-date he seems in a highly digitalized era.

This awareness fuels his habit of calling himself outdated, yet he remains confident enough to step in when true danger appears.

Yoimaru is a handsome man, with features that can be refined and striking when dressed up.

His appearance can shift from rough veteran to unexpectedly charismatic depending on his clothing and styling.

He bears a noticeable scar on his left eyebrow, a mark that hints at the dangerous life he has led as an exorcist.

The scar, paired with his generally bright demeanor, gives him a mix of toughness and approachability.

During his undercover operation in the large electronics store, his disguise elevated his looks to the point that multiple women tried to pick him up.

This incident clearly shows he is in the “good-looking teacher” category, even if he is comically unaware of his own charm.
