Character Setting

Edit

Wyndia is a demi-human girl with dog-like features from *The Rising of the Shield Hero*. She was raised by the dragon emperor Gaelion after her real parents were killed by bandits. Later, her dragon parent was slain by the Sword Hero, Ren Amaki. Wyndia was then captured, sold as a slave, and eventually bought by Naofumi Iwatani. Although she dislikes Ren for killing her dragon parent, she often helps him overcome his negative feelings. Wyndia loves monsters, wishes to raise baby Gaelion like a father figure, and has a unique way of thinking due to being raised by dragons. She is known for her brash attitude, monster-friendly ideas, and her strength in both battle and spirit.

Wyndia is a young demi-human girl with dog-like ears and features.

She often shows her wild upbringing in the way she moves and acts.

Wyndia is brave, outspoken, and sometimes stubborn.

She really loves monsters and dreams of raising her own dragon, treating monsters like family.

Because of her past, she can be defensive and quick to argue, especially about how monsters should be treated.

She sometimes gets into disagreements but is also a helpful team player, always eager to find new ways to help monsters grow stronger.

Wyndia dislikes people acting overly protective, especially when they act like her guardian.

She is positive and supportive, even to people she dislikes, like Ren, encouraging them to move forward.

When Wyndia was a baby, her parents were killed by bandits.

She does not remember their faces.

Afterward, the dragon emperor Gaelion raised her, but then Gaelion was killed by Ren Amaki, the Sword Hero.

Alone, Wyndia was caught by slave traders and sold as a slave.

Naofumi Iwatani bought her, bringing her to his village and trying to give her a new start.

Because of her past, she resented Ren, but over time, she started to support and even call him by his name, showing their improved friendship.

Wyndia has the blessing of dragon emperor Gaelion.

She can use Dragon Pulse Magic, a powerful form of magic connected to dragons and the land.

She sometimes fights by riding on Gaelion's back, combining their powers.

Wyndia can also use group magic, teaming up with friends in battle.

Later in the story, she becomes the Whip Hero, but she is not happy about the title.

  • Naofumi Iwatani: Wyndia was bought by him and sees him as a leader and protector, though she resists being babied.
  • Ren Amaki: She hated him for killing Gaelion but grew to understand and support him over time.
  • Ratotil Anthreya (Rat): They often argue about how to raise monsters but work together to help them grow.
  • Baby Gaelion: Wyndia loves raising baby Gaelion, seeing him as a new family member and like a parent.
  • Motoyasu Kitamura: He sees Wyndia more as a monster than a demi-human, causing them to clash since Motoyasu dislikes dragons.

  • Wyndia understands monster language and is very close to monsters.
  • She once tried to secretly raise monsters in Naofumi's village.
  • She almost received the nickname "Valley Girl" after covering for her monsters, but she ended up being called "Taniko."
  • Wyndia actually feels sad when monsters evolve into more aggressive forms called the “Rough” types.

  • "Monsters should fight and get stronger. That’s how they really grow."
  • "I won’t forgive you for what you did to Gaelion… but I won’t let you give up, either."

Raised by the Dragon Emperor

Wyndia was taken in and raised by the dragon emperor Gaelion after losing her real parents.

She learned to think much like a monster and grew up with a strong connection to dragons.

Because of Gaelion’s influence, she thinks monsters should get strong by fighting.

Slave Life and Rescue

After Gaelion was killed by Ren Amaki, Wyndia was left alone and caught by slave traders.

Eventually, she is sold and bought by Naofumi Iwatani.

She joins Naofumi’s village, where she tries to hide her hurt and resentment, especially toward Ren.

Village Life and Monster Raising

Wyndia loves raising and protecting monsters.

She secretly stole monster eggs from a nest during a hunt with the villagers and tried to raise them herself.

When Naofumi found out, she tried to protect a monster called a Catapiland, almost earning the nickname "Valley Girl" for her actions.

She worked closely with Rat to study ways to help monsters grow stronger, even if they sometimes argued.

Relationship With Ren Amaki

At first, Wyndia hated Ren and refused to call him by name since he killed her dragon parent.

However, she noticed when Ren was feeling guilty and tried to push him to be better.

With time, their relationship improved, and she began calling him by his real name.

Adventures in Alternate Stories

In the Melromarc arc of “The Reprise of the Spear Hero,” Wyndia and her dragon sibling were rescued by Naofumi's group after being attacked by adventurers.

Motoyasu Kitamura, who hates dragons, only talks to Wyndia as an assistant and treats her as a monster.

She does not get along well with Motoyasu or bird monsters like Filo.

Later, she joins the group to fight against threats, tries to protect the villages, and faces her feelings about her dragon parent's death.

After many adventures, including being considered for the position of Whip Hero, she still prefers working with monsters and helping others, showing her love for creatures and her changing friendships.

Changes in the Book Version

In the book version, Wyndia did not like being called "Taniko" and, after encouragement from Raphtalia and Ren, told Naofumi her real name.

She started calling Ren by his name in volume 20, which made their relationship better.

She argued with Rat less harshly than in earlier versions.

In the Melromarc story of “Reprise of the Spear Hero,” Wyndia was never enslaved and had mixed feelings about Gaelion offering an egg to outsiders.

She sometimes called Naofumi and Motoyasu "egg thieves" and worked hard to get her sibling back.

She finally made up with her dragon parent after a long journey.

  • Wyndia can understand and speak with monsters.
  • She sometimes helps with healing, fighting, and research in the village.
  • She has a unique view of the world thanks to her dragon upbringing.
