In the Land of Silence, where few Cookies dare set foot, where only the cries of vengeful spirits cut through the veil of lingering stillness, slumbers an ancient tomb. Charcoal Cookie, its solitary custodian, has taken care of this place for many years. But what made him carry on for so long? "I'm merely paying back me and me ancestors' dues," he mutters back. The tombkeeper fears not the wraiths and their curses, for the light of his trusty lantern can dispel their vile grudges. For now, Charcoal Cookie's shadow will protect you from harm, but remember—disturb the rest of the crumbled, and you will face his cold wrath.

Charcoal Cookie is a tall, stocky Cookie with ghostly gray-blue dough. His eyes are a deeper shade of this color, with distinct eyebags underneath them. He also has two eyelashes on each side, which continue down to the edge of his face and the beginning of his beard. His hair and beard are a dark shade of gray, and have white streaks. His outfit has a long, black skirt, and it has white buttons and a black top with a lopsided collar, white buttons, and a gray belt. His hands have brown tips, likely from his top. There is a metallic piece on his shoulder that looks like the cap of a salt shaker, and his shoes are black with silver tips.

He wears a black top hat textured like a charcoal stick and wrapped with a gray band. On its brim is a stylized set of a bird skull and attached spine. Charcoal Cookie holds a spear-like fire iron with a lantern glowing blue dangling from its loop.

Charcoal Cookie is a calm and soft-spoken tombkeeper. He wanders through the catacombs, watching over the countless crumbled bodies resting in their tombs. He does this to repay the deeds of his ancestors, who were once aided by the Cookies that gave their lives to seal away the spirits beneath the graves. To honor that sacrifice, Charcoal Cookie's bloodline has watched over the catacombs for generations.

Silent Salt Cookie was apparently unaware of his existence prior to the end of Episode 11, but Charcoal Cookie knows him very well and addresses him as "The Devil of Silence." He warns anyone who crosses his path to "leave as fast as they can." If they refuse, he takes the role of a quiet guide and caretaker until they finally decide to go.

At times, Charcoal Cookie will start whispering to the spirits of the catacombs mid-conversation, then continue speaking as if nothing happened. While it may seem strange or unsettling, it seems to simply be a habit of his. He feels no fear of the countless spirits surrounding the place, for the soft glow of his lantern is enough to keep them at bay as he walks.

Though gentle and patient by nature, Charcoal Cookie becomes a completely different Cookie if anyone dares to harm or disrespect the crumbled. He'll warn them to stop and leave, but if they persist, he won't hesitate to strike.

He holds deep respect for the crumbled and will not tolerate anyone disturbing them. This is one of the main reasons he encourages those who enter the catacombs to keep their voices down—so they don't disturb the fallen.

SPOILERS ⚠️⚠️⚠️

In Beast-Yeast Episode 12, it is revealed that in the past, Charcoal Cookie's devotion to protect the crumbled wasn't as strong as it is now. When he was still a young Cookie, he tried to escape from his family's mission—a duty passed down through generations. He didn't want to spend his whole life surrounded by crumbled spirits. When he finally ran away, he felt a sense of freedom, as if he had broken free from the weight of his bloodline's duty. But as he wandered through Beast-Yeast, he realized how much he missed the catacombs and the peace they brought him. In the end, he returned to fulfill the role he was meant to carry.

Even though his beliefs were shattered twice, those experiences deeply affected him and helped him mature. From then on, Charcoal Cookie understood that what you once believed to be true can completely change in a moment—and that's okay. It shouldn't weigh too heavily on one's heart; sometimes, you just have to move on.

As he grew older, Charcoal Cookie learned that everyone carries a past marked by mistakes, just like him, and no one deserves to be punished forever for them. As shown in the Hope for Freedom episode, he has fully accepted his past and no longer feels burdened or worried about it—unlike White Lily Cookie and Pastry Cookie, whom he tries to comfort by sharing his own experiences and offering wise, gentle advice.
