Character Setting

Edit

Sugino Mataroku is a man serving as a monk at the Hatakeyama residence in Aizu, whose fate changes drastically after acquiring a demon sword.

Sugino Mataroku earns his livelihood as a monk for the Hatakeyama household in Aizu.

His life takes a dark turn when he obtains the demon sword "Yatomori Kaneomi: Flying Blade," capable of unleashing slashing attacks from a distance.

Sugino Mataroku is defined by his spiraling descent into madness and guilt after testing the sword’s power on his own wife.

Unable to accept the enormity of his crime, he convinces himself he was possessed and becomes a wandering murderer, longing to be stopped.

His conflicted psyche drives him to atone through self-destruction, making him an unforgettable figure in the twisted tale.

After killing his wife in a moment of weakness, he blames the sword's influence for his act.

He then decides to become a murderer, hoping to meet a fitting end for his actions.

Just as he is about to commit another atrocity, he is interrupted and stopped by Jinta.

The demon sword "Yatomori Kaneomi: Flying Blade" loses its powers after merging with Jinta, becoming an ordinary blade.

Sugino Mataroku’s tragic fate centers around his relationship with his wife, whom he kills under delusion.

His interactions with Jinta are pivotal, as Jinta’s intervention brings his murderous spree to a halt.

The demon sword "Yatomori Kaneomi: Flying Blade" allows the user to launch slashing blows from afar.

After the sword’s demonic energy is absorbed by Jinta, it is nothing more than a plain sword, marking the end of Sugino Mataroku’s supernatural abilities.

Sugino Mataroku’s journey touches on themes of guilt, delusion, and self-destruction.

He stands out for believing in the sword's possession rather than his own responsibility, showing the power of psychological denial.

"I only did it because the sword made me."

"If I cannot be forgiven, then let someone stop me for good."
