Masato is a devil character from the manga Rin-ne. He is infamous for his petty personality and relentless grudges. Though Masato wields powerful and wicked techniques, he is surprisingly weak in direct confrontations and is frequently defeated by Rinne Rokudo and Tsubasa Jumonji. Six years ago, Masato’s attempt to complete a school assignment was thwarted by a young Rinne Rokudo, sparking a long-standing feud. Despite his wealth and willingness to spend generously for revenge, his plans consistently backfire. While his desire to trouble Rinne is often comedic, his methods involving innocent spirits are notably malicious. Masato also struggles with kanji, frequently making spelling mistakes, even with his own name.

Masato has bat-like wings on his back, marking his identity as a devil. His physical build is unremarkable, lacking notable strength despite his fearsome tools and powers.

Masato is incredibly narrow-minded and is notorious for holding grudges. He goes out of his way to seek revenge, showing no mercy even toward women and children, who are weaker than him. Even other characters acknowledge how small-minded he is. He is extremely persistent, never letting go of even the smallest slight.

Despite his menacing attitude, there is a comical aspect to his actions. He spends freely to accomplish his goals, highlighting the contrast between his wealth and his underwhelming success rate. Masato also has a significant weakness in written language, often making spelling errors, even miswriting his own name.

Masato is a devil who was once assigned a school task to collect animal souls during his time at devil school. Six years before the main story, his assignment was interrupted and ruined by Rinne Rokudo, who was only in the fourth grade at the time. Masato was soundly beaten by the young Rinne, an event that instigated his relentless vendetta.

Masato employs a variety of devilish techniques and spells, many of which are both powerful and vicious. However, his actual fighting ability is mediocre, leading to frequent losses in direct encounters with Rinne Rokudo or Tsubasa Jumonji. He is also capable of manipulating innocent spirits into becoming evil spirits, then using Shoma to dispose of them.

Repeated Schemes and Failures

Despite being wealthy and willingness to spend whatever is necessary to surpass Rinne, Masato’s plots have never succeeded. Time after time, his elaborate plans end in failure, often resulting in him being punished or bested by Rinne.

Malicious Acts

Masato's revenge schemes are not always harmless. He has gone as far as turning innocent spirits into evil spirits and then having Shoma eliminate them. This highlights his cruelty and the danger he poses, contrasting with the more humorous side of his rivalry with Rinne.

Masato is distinctly bad at kanji and frequently makes spelling mistakes, even with his own name. While he often makes these slips, he does not omit characters.

Masato’s blend of wealth, cunning, and incompetence makes him a memorable and often entertaining adversary within the world of Rin-ne. His grudges drive many of the comedic and darker moments involving devils in the series.
