Osushi is the loving younger sister of Tanosuke and an important character in Dororo. Her story is about her strong connection to her brother, her struggles with loss, and how pain and revenge almost lead her down a dark path. Osushi's key moment is when Hyakkimaru regains his hearing and the first thing he hears is her heartbreaking cry for her lost brother.
Osushi looks gentle and kind. In both manga and anime, she is shown as a simple young woman, easy to recognize by her sorrowful expression and traditional clothing.
Osushi is deeply caring and devoted to her brother, Tanosuke. Her strong love for him makes her beg for his life and later, she struggles with grief and anger when he dies. She tries to hold onto hope and kindness, even when darkness surrounds her.
Normally, Osushi has no fighting skills and is not a warrior.
However, in the game version, after receiving a demon sword from Saburouta of the Dice, she gains supernatural powers, including casting fire attacks and striking with inhuman force.
- Tanosuke: Her beloved brother. She tries everything to save him and cannot accept his loss.
- Hyakkimaru: The one she pleads with to spare her brother's life. Their relationship changes from sorrow and anger to final understanding.
- Saburouta of the Dice: In the game, he manipulates Osushi after her brother's death, giving her a demon blade and making her one of his followers.
- “Please, don’t kill my brother.”
- “How is it? The power I got… I’m pretty good with it now, aren’t I?”
First Appearance and Plea for Tanosuke
In both the manga and anime versions, Osushi begs Hyakkimaru not to kill her brother Tanosuke, who is now possessed by a demon blade. When her brother dies, she is heartbroken and, in the original manga, yells at Hyakkimaru, blaming him for her loss.
Sound and Sadness
When Hyakkimaru finally regains his hearing, the first sound he ever hears is the rain and Osushi’s deep sobbing as she mourns for her brother.
2019 Anime and Other Versions
In the 2019 anime, Osushi does not shout at Hyakkimaru. Instead, she quietly cries over her brother's body, showing her deep grief and sadness.
Game Version: The Path of Revenge
In the video game version, her name is changed to “Misaki”. After Tanosuke dies, Misaki becomes vengeful and tracks down Hyakkimaru, fighting him several times.
- First Fight: Although holding a sword, she is inexperienced. Even after losing, she blames Hyakkimaru until he warns her that hatred will consume her. She leaves, unsettled.
- Second Fight: She attacks Hyakkimaru again and is defeated. Saburouta of the Dice finds her after Hyakkimaru leaves and manipulates her.
- Third Encounter: Given a demon sword, Misaki is overtaken by its power. Her skin turns ghostly white and she loses her senses. She fights Hyakkimaru, but cannot win and escapes.
- Final Battle: Misaki has now mastered the demon sword, casting fire attacks and using inhuman powers. After another defeat, she finally lets go of her hatred and makes peace with Hyakkimaru.
In different adaptations, Osushi’s story changes slightly. For example, her name becomes “Misaki” and her actions are more aggressive in the video game version.
