Keiko is a female supporting character in Minami-ke, a classmate and friend of Kana Minami who is known for her intelligence, her glasses, and her unusually sharp awareness of other people’s feelings.
Keiko attends the same middle school as Kana Minami and is in the same class.
She is one of Kana’s female friends and often appears in scenes involving their school life.
She has poor natural eyesight and normally wears glasses.
In episode 3, "Whim," from Minami-ke: Omatase, which was included with volume 10 of Minami-ke released on October 5, 2012, she was shown trying contact lenses.
However, she did not seem used to them, and they apparently hurt her.
At one point, she said that she might take them off, and she appears to have continued using glasses afterward.
She is generally called Keiko, while Miyuki calls her Keiko-chan.
Keiko is highly knowledgeable and an excellent student.
She consistently scores 100 on tests, marking her as one of the standout honor students in the series.
She is also good at reading the room and understanding situations quickly.
Because of this, she often ends up in the position of quietly managing awkward social dynamics.
At the same time, she has a reserved and somewhat withdrawn personality.
She is frequently swept along by the antics and impulsive behavior of Kana Minami and Riko.
Keiko dislikes horror.
That detail adds a small but memorable contrast to her otherwise calm and capable image.
One of Keiko’s notable traits is how perceptive she is about other characters’ feelings.
Before Hiroko appeared, she was the only person who knew both that Fujioka had a crush on Kana Minami and that Riko had a crush on Fujioka.
Because she understands both sides of that situation, she often has to be especially tactful.
This gives her a distinctive role as a careful observer who notices more than she says.
