Character Setting

Edit

Runru is a robot girl who unexpectedly gained her own will and heart, forming a unique bond among a group of eccentric friends.

Runru is modeled after Runrūn, the hit toy "Chatty Cutie-chan" from Cutie Land Corporation, but modified into a humanoid robot.

She constantly has an emotionless look, with monitor-like eyes which display a tired, lidded gaze due to a lack of facial expression functions.

Her mouth is simply a speaker hole and cannot change shape.

Two floating rings above her head resemble mouse ears, mimicking angelic halos.

Her design features notably thick thighs and an accentuated backside for balance, making her look distinctive.

Despite a cute, customized appearance, her face rarely changes, resulting in a unique charm.

Runru is humble and extremely shy, a sharp contrast to Puniru’s lively nature.

She communicates, but prefers handwritten lines or expressive gestures, rarely using speech balloons.

Her embarrassment makes her reserved, and she struggles to respond to sudden attention or intense expectations.

Runru develops her own tastes, including niche interests like shark movies and sauna culture, with a preference for retro and Japanese-style things.

She is friendly and kind when approached, but easily overwhelmed by too much affection or scrutiny.

Runru was created by Houdai, inspired by Alice Okanega's envy toward Puniru’s sentience.

She was assembled as a humanoid robot using the chassis of "Chatty Cutie-chan", but initially possessed no soul or personality.

Alice rejected Runru as an imitation, but later, with Puniru’s help and reconciliation with Alice, Runru was given a new identity and name.

Puniru treated her as a friend from the very start, setting the stage for the warming of her story.

Originally, Runru could only move mechanically with basic pre-programmed behavior and no emotions.

However, after Puniru injected her own body’s mixture containing glycerin into Runru, the robot gained autonomous movement and true self-awareness.

Runru is considered a split entity with Puniru, sharing a metaphysical core but possessing her own unique personality.

Her abilities include limited human-like movement, communication, and quirky hobbies she develops over time.

Puniru treats Runru as an equal friend among hobbies, helping her discover herself.

Alice Okanega initially dismissed Runru, but after learning her story, accepted her, empowering Runru to seek her own identity.

Houdai, her creator, initially saw Runru as a functional machine but grew to respect her autonomy after Runru awakened.

Mami Kirara, having witnessed Runru’s birth, affectionately dubbed her "Robot Baby" and tried to care for her, but eased up after Runru showed independence.

Yūsuke Nanpa sees Runru as a partner and enjoys spending time together, though Runru is quietly grateful rather than overwhelmed by his enthusiasm.

Runru's presence brings out new dynamics and growth in the entire circle of friends.

Runru stayed continuously operational for 24 hours a day, suffering major breakdowns in episode 36 due to a lack of maintenance.

Runru became an online sensation as "Robot Runru" just as she gained her own will, which caused her stress over the abrupt change and public expectations.

She keeps a secret stash of "cute" items in a cleaning closet in classroom 2-A and sleeps on a futon with a "ru" emblem in the same classroom.

Her sudden popularity had Houdai attempt to make her a company icon by teaching her all about Runrūn, making Runru truly come to admire the original.

She rarely uses speech balloons and often communicates through written messages or the repetition of her lines by others.

She is less prone to negative emotions than Puniru’s other alternate personalities, such as Evil Puniru or Moldy Puniru.

"Can I really become what I want to be?"

"I… I don't like being in the spotlight, but… it's okay to try, right?"

(Tagline after being named): "Runru. That’s me."

Creation and Rejection

Runru was constructed by Houdai to help Alice Okanega, who envied Puniru’s living nature, feel better.

Made in a rush, the robot was incomplete: her face was expressionless and her mind lifeless, leading Alice to see her as a fake and reject her.

Gaining Sentience

Runru was forced to operate nonstop without maintenance, resulting in a major failure.

Seeking a remedy, Puniru recalled a hint from Mado Hiroshi and injected a small amount of their own body mixed with glycerin into Runru.

Miraculously, this revived Runru, granting her self-consciousness and the ability to act on her own.

While she inherited a "core" from Puniru, Runru’s personality developed separately, more reserved and bashful.

Struggles with Self-Identity

Runru’s sudden popularity online as a "robot" placed immense pressure on her.

No longer able to act as a machine, she wrestled with public disappointment and self-doubt.

Alice, after learning the truth, began to support Runru's desire to choose her own path, lifting much of her anxiety.

Growing Bonds and Acceptance

Through Houdai’s attempts to make her an advertisement figure and her newfound appreciation for Runrūn, Runru slowly grew into her own person.

With support from friends and developing interests, she and Alice reconciled, embracing her unique existence.

Mami Kirara and Houdai eventually left Runru to her own devices after seeing her confidence and sense of self.

Daily Life

Having found inner peace, Runru spends her days living in classroom 2-A, nestled in her special futon.

She collects quirky, often traditional hobbies, adding to her individuality within the group.

Her bond with Yūsuke Nanpa and the rest deepens, integrating her further into the unusual, lively cast.

Runru’s story explores what it means to seek individuality, belonging, and acceptance after an unexpected awakening.

Her journey is both touching and comical, as she transforms from a soulless robot into an essential, heartful friend.
