The protagonist of this work. A wizard with the appearance of a skeleton. In the real world, he was an unremarkable salaryman named "Satoru Suzuki," but he was transported to a different world where the rules of Yggdrasil, the game he played, still apply, while retaining the avatar he created during the game. As he was an Overlord, the highest rank of the undead race in the game, his immense power has earned him respect as a "Transcendent" or "Demon King" from those who know of his existence. Due to his solitary life in the real world, he is not particularly attached to returning there. On the other hand, he is deeply attached to Nazarick and his guild members, who were his home and companions, and this attachment drives many of his actions.

During the game, he played under the handle "Momonga," but after the transition, he took on the name of his guild, "Ainz Ooal Gown," as he was the only one left to bear the responsibility of all the other members. This also serves the purpose of finding other Yggdrasil players who might have been transported to this world.

He is usually gentle and dislikes unnecessary killing, and will spare those in dire situations if they have value. However, he does not hesitate to commit mass slaughter if it benefits Nazarick, and he shows intense anger and exacts severe retribution on those who harm Nazarick NPCs or its pride. His emotional fluctuations are suppressed due to his undead nature.

In reality, he is just an ordinary salaryman, but he acts as an omniscient and omnipotent absolute ruler towards his subordinates, and is forced to behave in a manner that fits this image. The author wanted to write an ideal, strongest protagonist, and chose to make him undead to avoid the dangers of being poisoned or attacked in his sleep as a human.

Momonga

The persona Ainz adopts when he disguises himself as an adventurer to secure funds and gather information. He operates out of E-Rantel. This is not just a mere disguise but also serves as groundwork for Ainz Ooal Gown to eventually emerge as a hero on the historical stage. Due to the need to infiltrate human cities, he uses illusions to mask his appearance. As part of his disguise, he wears pitch-black full-body armor, which later becomes the origin of his nickname "Dark Hero."

Although initially inexperienced in combat techniques, he has been honing his skills as a fighter through repeated battles with strong opponents. In an extremely short period, he rose to the highest rank of adventurer, Adamantite, in the kingdom, handling many high-difficulty requests and solidifying his reputation by repelling the great demon Jaldabaoth, who had shaken the royal capital. His actions, influenced by his business manners, have elevated his reputation as a magnanimous and great figure who does not look down on others.
