Character Setting

Edit

Kim Sangshik is a male D-rank Hunter who fights alongside Sung Jinwoo in a raid led by Mabuchi and is depicted as a somewhat cowardly yet ultimately remorseful side character in Solo Leveling.

Kim Sangshik is married and has a family.

He lives with his wife and their two daughters, and his role as a husband and father is an important part of how he sees himself.

His status as a family man strongly influences his behavior in dangerous raids.

He often acts out of fear for his own survival, knowing that his family depends on him.

Kim Sangshik is a D-rank Hunter, placing him in the lower-middle tier of combat ability among Hunters.

Despite not being very strong, he participates in dungeon raids to earn a living and support his family.

He joins a raid party where Mabuchi serves as the leader, with Sung Jinwoo also taking part in the same group.

Within the party, Kim Sangshik is not a key damage dealer or strategist, but rather an ordinary member who follows the lead of others.

Kim Sangshik has a conflicting personality that mixes courage, irresponsibility, and guilt.

At one point, he himself suggests that the party should enter the boss room, showing a moment of reckless boldness despite the risks.

Once the boss appears and the team is overwhelmed, he panics under the extreme pressure.

In his fear, he turns on Mabuchi, aggressively blaming the leader and trying to force him to take full responsibility for the disastrous situation.

This reaction highlights his irresponsible side, as he ignores the fact that he was the one who encouraged entering the boss room.

Even taking his panic into account, his attempt to shift blame makes him appear selfish and weak under stress.

However, Kim Sangshik is not purely negative or one-dimensional.

When he later ends up in the same party again, he shows clear signs of regret for his earlier behavior.

He becomes more subdued and remorseful, indicating that he has reflected on how unfairly he treated Mabuchi.

This guilt suggests that he is capable of self-awareness and growth, even if he fails badly in high-pressure moments.

Kim Sangshik’s main connections are with his raid teammates, especially Mabuchi and Sung Jinwoo.

His conflict with Mabuchi stems from the boss-room incident, where tension explodes once the party is on the brink of collapse.

Although Sung Jinwoo is present in the same raid, Kim Sangshik is not a central companion to him.

Instead, he functions more as a background character whose actions highlight the dangers of dungeons and the psychological strain on ordinary Hunters.

His remorse during a later reunion with the same party softens the earlier impression of him.

Through this, the story uses him to show how fear can twist people in life-or-death situations, but also how they can later regret and reflect on those moments.
