Himena Aika is a charismatic magical girl from a neighboring town of Kamihama City and the current leader of Neo-Magius in "Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story." Bursting with confidence and energetic charm, Himena dreams of reaching the top to create a world where free love is accepted, especially for her one true love, Hiko. Despite her cheerful exterior and social skills, she holds deep wounds from her traumatic past, driven by her wish to always be with Hiko after his tragic death. Gifted with unique magical abilities and tactical instincts, she rapidly transforms a weak group into a formidable force, making waves as both a strategist and a passionate ally. Though her ambition sometimes pushes her down a strict path, her devotion to her friends and personal ideals shines through.
Himena stands at 157cm tall and is a 14-year-old second-year student at Kamihama Mirai Academy.
She sports semi-long purple hair, styled up, and her magical girl costume is a dazzling, celestial outfit inspired by traditional Japanese heavenly robes with a vibrant, fairylike flair.
Her Soul Gem is a four-petal flower shape, colored wisteria, located on her abdomen.
Her weapon is a celestial robe ("hagoromo"), used both in offense and defense.
Himena is naturally charismatic, outgoing, and can effortlessly get along with anyone.
She tends to speak in a "gyaru" or trendy girl style, using a playful self-reference (“this gal!”), but maintains an air of innocence.
Underneath her cheerful front, she is calm and intuitive, making sharp, unexpected decisions that even seasoned magical girls like Livia Medeiros find unpredictable.
Though she seems carefree, Himena is emotionally driven by her love for Hiko and harbors a strong resentment toward a society that dismisses her view of love.
Fiercely loyal, she would never betray her friends and always rushes to help them, extending kindness to even perceived traitors.
Originally from a town neighboring Kamihama City, Himena’s life changed after the loss of her childhood sweetheart, Hiko, who was bullied and eventually took his own life in her presence.
Isolated by classmates and even her own family, she fell into despair and transferred schools.
Upon joining Neo-Magius—motivated by her friend Sasha and the advice of an inner persona she calls “Karepi” (her imaginary friend echoing Hiko’s guidance)—she rapidly rose to become the group’s leader.
Her wish when contracting as a magical girl was to always be with Hiko “within herself.”
Himena's unique magic is "Synthesis," allowing her to temporarily transfer one person’s abilities to another, including herself.
This lets her fight multiple enemies solo or turn the tides for her team, though it demands a hefty toll if overused.
In battle, she attacks with water spheres and her celestial robe, blending offense and defense.
In the game, she is an Aqua (Water) attribute support type with a heavy focus on "Accele" disks.
Her connect boosts allies’ attack and water attack, while her Magia and Doppel further amplify the entire team’s offensive and defensive capabilities for multiple turns.
Her special memoria, "That Summer’s Crush," increases her initial MP and offers additional abilities.
- Hiko: Childhood friend and first love, central to her wish and ongoing emotional strength.
- Sasha: Friend who introduces her to Neo-Magius.
- Karepi: Her inner, imaginary persona modeled after Hiko, whom she consults for advice and strategic planning.
- Neo-Magius: As their leader, Himena is adored and called “Princess,” rapidly organizing them into a true force.
- She is noted for not betraying allies and for usually trying to rescue or reconcile even with those who have turned against the group.
- Himena’s motif, along with her outfit and relationship with Hiko, draws from the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi (the Weaver Princess and Cowherd Star from East Asian folklore).
- After the disbandment of Neo-Magius, she starts a nail salon and uses her business influence to pursue her ideals in society.
“Should I take all of you to the top?”
“Don’t worry! This gal will drag everyone right up to the peak!”
Becoming the Neo-Magius Leader
After the original leaders, Shigure Miyabi and Hagumu Azumi, step down, Himena seizes the opportunity to join a small, underdog group—seeing it as the best way to reach the top.
Inspired by the idea of magical girl supremacy shared by Alexandra Kurusu and advised by her inner Karepi, she takes command and quickly shapes Neo-Magius into a formidable force.
Motivation and Wish
Himena’s wish was for Hiko to remain with her, at least inside her mind, after witnessing his tragic suicide due to bullying.
This contract leaves her psychologically scarred, isolated, and misunderstood, even by her family, eventually driving her to transfer schools and join Neo-Magius.
Leadership and Tactics
Himena proves herself both as a charismatic motivator and a shrewd strategist, employing daring plans and boosting the power of her allies using her Synthesis magic.
Her “gal” persona masks a tactical intelligence, making her both unpredictable and effective.
Idealism, Conflict, and Redemption
Driven by a desire for “free love” and deep-seated anger at social rejection, Himena sometimes resorts to forceful measures in pursuit of her utopia.
Despite her ambitions, she remains deeply attached to her comrades, never forsaking them even in the face of betrayal or defeat.
In the end, through intervention from her friends and Sasha, Himena confronts her hatred and loneliness, setting her on a path to healing and reconciliation.
- Character designed by Ume Aoki.
- Attends Kamihama Mirai Academy as a second-year middle schooler.
- After Neo-Magius disbands, Himena starts a nail salon, hoping to influence the world toward her vision of accepting all forms of love.
