Shiro

Shiro is a small, male mixed-breed dog with soft, fluffy white fur.

He wears a light blue collar.

His face is simple, with dot eyes and a small round nose.

He closely resembles his unseen father.

Shiro looks very similar to some pets featured in the author's other manga.

Shiro is honest, kind, and the most sensible one in the Nohara family.

He is reliable—often doing chores like shopping or watering plants when Shinnosuke Nohara forgets.

Shiro is very laid-back and keeps calm when the family is in chaos.

He sometimes feels confused or worried about his family's silly behavior.

Even though he is gentle, he easily falls in love with cute female dogs.

He is actually a bit shy and not good at fighting.

But Shiro also has a mischievous side, especially when he gets tipsy if accidentally given beer.

He loves eating meat (like beef or sweet potatoes) but knows to be careful about how much he eats.

Shiro was born to a dog named Borscht and had three siblings.

His first family could not keep him because the dad developed a made-up "sudden dog allergy."

Three of Shiro's siblings found new homes, but Shiro and his brother Borscht were left.

A girl named Run from his original family put Shiro in a box, hoping someone would rescue him.

Shinnosuke Nohara found him and took him home.

At first, Misae Nohara was not happy with Shiro because of some accidents in the house, but the family soon accepted him.

Shiro is much smarter than most dogs.

He understands nearly everything humans say.

He can do chores like cleaning up toys, taking in laundry, watering flowers, and even helping with small errands.

Shiro can lock the door and change Himawari Nohara’s diapers if needed.

He does tricks to get food, such as making himself into a fluffy cotton ball or standing on two legs.

Shiro even tried to use chopsticks (but didn’t do well).

Sometimes, he goes out to shop for himself or even tries to drive a car!

If he overeats and gets fluffy, Shiro decides to work out by doing sit-ups, push-ups, and shadow boxing.

Shinnosuke Nohara

Shinnosuke Nohara is Shiro’s best friend, even if he forgets to walk or feed Shiro sometimes.

They often spend time together, and Shiro is seen as Shinnosuke’s main companion before Himawari Nohara is born.

Misae Nohara and Hiroshi Nohara

At first, Misae Nohara didn't like Shiro because of some mischief, but the family soon accepted him.

Hiroshi Nohara is impressed by Shiro's intelligence.

Himawari Nohara

Shiro sometimes takes care of Himawari Nohara, like changing diapers for her.

Tooru Kazama

Shiro and Tooru Kazama share the same voice actor, and sometimes Tooru Kazama plays with Shiro, making him feel confused.

Meg and Descendants

Shiro becomes close to a female dog named Meg.

In future stories, Shiro has ten descendants with names like Shirota and Shirojiro (their mother is probably Meg but not confirmed).

• He can dance, stand on his front or back legs, and even try backflips easily.

How Shiro Was Adopted

Born as one of four puppies, Shiro's first family had to give him up because of a fake dog allergy in their dad.

A girl named Run couldn't keep Shiro, so she placed him in a box on the road, hoping he would be rescued.

Shinnosuke Nohara found him and decided to keep him.

At first, Misae Nohara was angry at Shiro for messing up her dress and making a mess indoors.

With ups and downs, Shiro finally became a true part of the Nohara family.

Super Shiro Spin-Off

In 2019, Shiro became the star of his own spin-off anime, Super Shiro.

Here, Shiro becomes a superhero.

His inner hero voice is very different from his usual self, sounding cool and deep—a big surprise for fans.

This spin-off shows Shiro in new adventures, separate from the main story.

Shiro’s Special Skills

Shiro's most famous trick is to curl up into a fluffy ball, making him look like cotton candy.

He also learns new tricks, like dancing on two legs and other funny moves, to earn food or attention.

When he gets overweight from eating too many treats, Shiro starts exercising hard—showing push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and shadow boxing!

Shiro’s Age

Shiro’s exact age is unknown.

When he first appeared, he was a little puppy.

Since Shinnosuke Nohara always stays five years old in the story, Shiro has not aged either.

In episodes where he talks, Shiro sometimes acts more mature than kids around him.

• When Shiro’s inner thoughts are heard in the movies or special episodes, he uses "I" or "me" as pronouns.
• In "The Golden Sword Hero" movie, a black dog named Kuro joins the Nohara family for a while.
• If Shiro appears in the character roll at the end or beginning of an episode, Tooru Kazama is usually not shown in that episode.
• Now, thanks to animal laws, it is a crime to abandon a pet in real life.

People must find a new home for their animals—not leave them outside like Shiro once was.
