Proudwolf

Memorable line: “Help me! Don’t kill me!”

Proudwolf first appears early in the main story, when Yuji encounters him as a wolf monster.

His name sounds cool when translated, carrying the impression of a noble or proud wolf.

In reality, however, Proudwolf is extremely timid.

When he first meets Yuji, he tries to attack him as prey, only to be captured by Yuji’s magic, Mana Casting Net.

The moment he is caught, he desperately begs for his life, showing just how cowardly he really is.

Proudwolf himself cannot speak human language.

In fact, monsters in the series generally cannot talk like people.

However, Yuji possesses the skill Monster Communication, which allows him to converse with Proudwolf and other monsters.

Because of this, Yuji can understand Proudwolf’s frightened pleas and later accepts his surrender.

After Yuji spares him, Proudwolf is tamed and becomes one of Yuji’s companions.

He is especially useful as transportation, acting as Yuji’s mount during travel.

That said, he has one major problem.

Whenever a serious battle begins, or whenever a monster that looks obviously powerful appears, Proudwolf tends to hide before anyone else.

Despite his fierce appearance, Proudwolf is a complete coward at heart.

He is easily frightened and has very little interest in fighting dangerous enemies.

Still, he is not disloyal.

Proudwolf trusts Yuji’s strength deeply and believes that staying near someone as powerful as Yuji keeps him safe from other monsters.

Because of that trust, he never abandons Yuji, betrays him, or truly runs away from his side.

Even when scared, he can still follow Yuji’s instructions.

Yuji

Yuji is the tamer and sage who tamed Proudwolf.

Proudwolf places great faith in Yuji’s overwhelming strength.

Because of that, he does not betray Yuji or flee from him in the face of enemies.

Slime

The Slime was tamed by Yuji before Proudwolf.

Individually, the Slime is weaker than Proudwolf.

Even so, Proudwolf does not look down on the Slime.

Since the Slime is his senior among Yuji’s tamed monsters, Proudwolf treats it with proper respect.
