Akane begins the story as a 17-year-old high school student aspiring to become a rakugo performer.

By the time of the fifty-second chapter, set in June of her first year as an apprentice, she is 18 years old.

She deeply admired her father, Tooru Ousaki, as a rakugo performer.

Her life changed when he was suddenly expelled during the test for promotion to shin'uchi and then became an office worker.

Hearing people say that it was good he had been forced to quit rakugo left a deep wound.

In response, Akane decided to become a performer herself, clear her father’s resentment, and prove both Arakawa Issho and the people around her wrong.

Akane developed her skills through unusual and secret training.

She closely observed Tooru Ousaki’s solo practice, and for six years she was quietly taught storytelling by her father’s master, Arakawa Shiguma, who was especially respected for emotional human drama pieces.

Because of that hidden education, she acquired storytelling ability beyond her years.

She also refuses to compromise when it comes to rakugo, actively seeking advice from senior performers and immediately putting lessons into practice to build judgment and stage sense.

Akane is relentless, proactive, and intensely devoted to her craft.

If she needs to learn something, she moves at once rather than waiting for instruction.

Later, she establishes a free-spirited style that improvisationally blends elements from many different stories into a single performance.

This distinctive approach becomes known as Rakugo Verse.

At the time of the Karaku Cup, she was not yet an official disciple.

Because of that, she performed under the stage name Akane, written simply in hiragana in the original context, before later taking her formal professional name.

After completing her trainee period, she made her debut as a zenza performer eight months later at Yasaka-tei.

At that point, she officially appeared under the stage name Akane Ousaki.

During the zenza selection event, Akane performed Changing Mood.

In the first half of the performance, she became stuck because she was too fixated on reproducing the art of Tooru Ousaki, which was also the source of her inspiration.

In the second half, she accepted her father’s weakness and emotionally separated from her dependence on him.

Even so, her score reached only 92 points, leaving her just behind Hikaru Koragi.

Right after her promotion to futatsume was decided, Arakawa Shiguma fell seriously ill.

As a result, Arakawa Issho became her guardian, welcomed her into the school, and she went to Paris for three years of training.

Through vaudeville-style yose performances held in France, she developed a stronger expressive range.

She later returned to Japan carrying the fruits of that experience.

Akane’s story is one of steady growth through hardship.

By overcoming repeated adversity and trial, she matures little by little not only as a storyteller, but also as a person.
