Benio

Benio is an old friend of Madara who appears as a beautiful young woman with a butterfly on her right eye. She is a yokai with strong spiritual sensing powers and is not bothered about eating humans. Even though she dislikes humans, she is respectful to Madara and the Lord (Reio), whom she calls "Little Master." She sometimes calls Madara and Reio "little ones" when they are in their small forms, feeling disappointed by their appearance. Despite her wariness toward humans, she helps Takashi Natsume since he is connected to Madara. After Takashi releases Reio, she feels indebted and decides not to harm him. Benio stands out among other yokai for her elegant manner, sometimes addressing Takashi with respect. She first appears in the second season of the anime and returns in the last episode of season three, joining the Natsume clan's party.

Benio has known Madara for a long time but they do not meet often.

She knows about Reiko Natsume and recognizes Takashi Natsume’s connection to her.

It is clear that she has seen Madara in his true, powerful form, and feels sad about his "cat" appearance.

Benio has the power to sense the spiritual energy of spirits and humans just by touching them.

She can transform into a butterfly and fly quickly.

Her ability to detect yokai make her a good help when needed.

She respects Madara deeply and calls him "Master Madara."

She also honors Reio (the Lord) as the "main master."

Despite disliking humans, she helps Takashi out of respect for Madara, and, later, because Takashi freed Reio.

With Takashi, she uses polite language or adds "Mr." to his name, rare among yokai.

She knows and remembers Reiko Natsume, but seems surprised and puzzled by Takashi's actions and character.

Benio joins the Natsume group and the "Dog Circle" party in the anime’s third season finale.

Her screams and dramatic reactions are well-known among fans.

Despite her dislike of humans, she keeps her promises and shows a sense of honor.

First Appearance and Encounters

Benio first shows up in the second season of the anime as a mysterious yokai with a butterfly on her right eye.

She meets Madara in the forest and is shocked to see his cat form, crying out in the night about his small size.

She remembers his true form and feels pity.

Connection to Reiko and Takashi

Benio knows about Reiko Natsume and gets frightened when she sees Takashi, who looks like Reiko.

When she finds out about the connection, she curses humans for confusing her.

She notices that, although Takashi looks like Reiko, he does not act the same way and calls him "a kid I don’t understand," but still pays attention to him.

Relationship with Other Spirits

Benio is not close to humans in general and often shows her dislike openly.

But she respects favors and debts, promising not to harm Takashi because he saved her master.

She participates in the group gatherings and shows a more playful side when surrounded by friends.
